Our Middle Childhood Education program is one that embraces the ever changing world of Education and values the need for excellent educators.  We are committed to giving pre-service teachers not only the knowledge needed to teach 21st century learners but the experiences in the field that will give them a clear understanding of their career.  Kent State Stark MCED graduates encompass the following skills:

●       Field experience across grade levels, content areas and district type

●       Updated resources and strategies to take into the classroom

●       International Baccalaureate certified to specialize in global and integrated teaching

Our students in action...

One of our student teachers, Madison, reading with TVMS students!

Here are some pics of some of the things we’ve been doing in 8th grade Science. We discovered magnetic forces act when things are touching or not touching and a couple of students got their magnets to “float”. We also learned about electron exchange with electric charges and by rubbing a balloon against our hair and transferring it electrons. The positive charges in the pop can are attracted to the negative electrons we rubbed on to the balloon through friction. We used “the force” to make the pop can roll towards our balloons!

These pictures are a few activities we have done in our Language Arts class! The students love being creative, hands-on, and active. We play vocabulary games such as cup, where the students read the word then say the definition and if they are correct they start building a pyramid. The first team to build their pyramid wins! Another activity the students love to do is color. So, for our phonics lessons the students create words that apply to a rule that I give them for a letter. We have done things such as just drawing and decorating a circle and making a pizza! Students also love getting their homework in plastic eggs. So, for our figurative language poems everyone got an egg with a topic inside and they wrote a poem about it and kept it a secret until we read them aloud.
