This is a program that focuses on the mathematics requirements of those preparing for entry into a variety of trades. The standards and competencies are based upon industry expectations in the trades. The course emphasizes basic skills in applied mathematics scenarios designed to support students entering the technical work force. The focus is real world problem solving that students carry to their specific careers. Additional emphasis is given to the critical and creative thinking process as well as technology skills development as students look to strengthen their use of arithmetic concepts, measurements, practical geometry, basic algebra right angle trigonometry, problem solving, reasoning, perspective and flexible thinking.
This Course Meets Graduation Requirements:
Kelso High School – 3rd year of Math (pathway for graduation), CTE, or Elective
– state alternative to Smarter Balance Assessment
Lower Columbia College – math requirement for AA degrees in construction, heavy equipment, etc
EARN COLLEGE CREDIT FOR THIS COURSE:
This course is CTE Dual Credited course articulated with Lower Columbia College.
Student’s earning a ‘B’ or better, may earn college credit through a registration process. Credits earned at Lower Columbia College will transfer to any Washington State two-year institution or college, and some four-year colleges.
