Title 1

Pinehurst Elementary Title I Program

Parent Involvement Policy

What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program designed to work with children who are in need of extra help with their reading skills.  Pinehurst Elementary is a school-wide Title I school.  As a Title I school we are able to receive additional training, resources, programs, and staffing to benefit all children, from below grade to above grade level.  School-wide programs do not have to identify particular children as eligible for services.

How is the Title I Program Funded?

Funding for Title I is based on the percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced lunches.  Therefore, it is essential that our eligible families apply for free and reduced lunch at our school.  Forms are available at the office.  Currently, Pinehurst Elementary is receiving a grant for the next several years which provides free breakfast and lunch to each child in the school.

Title Services

In Title I at Pinehurst Elementary, we currently do Reading Flex grouping and Extended Intervention services.  Flex groups are for all students.  Each grade level is assigned a specific time for Flex.  Flex group instruction is done by the entire Title I staff, the three grade-level teachers for each grade, and special education staff.  This makes a total of twelve reading groups.  During the Flex groups, each instructor is working on reading skills and strategies that support our school-wide reading program.  The Title I staff also provides Intervention services to students who score below grade level on the Idaho Reading Indicator/Istation assessment of reading skills.  Students receive additional instruction in small groups.  The instruction consists of phonics instruction, phonemic awareness, reading leveled readers, sight word practice, fluency practice, vocabulary instruction, and comprehension strategies.

Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement is an important component of the Title I program.  Title I can help parents and children develop successful reading habits in both school and at home.  Title I strongly encourages parents to be involved in the planning of their child’s education.  Working together, we can provide a successful learning experience.  Title I also offers several Family Nights throughout the year such as Literacy Night, Bingo and a Book, Science Night, Math Night, and Summer Kickoff.  We hope to see you there!

Highly Qualified Status

All members of the Title I staff meet “Highly Qualified” status.  As a parent, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s teachers.
