What is it?

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for third and fourth grade students designed to improve reading comprehension and enthusiasm for reading using a fun and unique competition format. Participants are given a reading list of ten books and are challenged to read as many books on the list as possible. At the Keller ISD District competition, students will compete in teams to determine their knowledge and understanding of the books.

How are the books selected?

This year’s 10 books have been selected to include a variety of genres, reading levels, and themes. The books are current Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees, KISD Chuckwagon books and a past Bluebonnet list books. The books were chosen to appeal to reluctant readers as well as enthusiastic and mature readers.

Where can I find the books?

All Battle of the Books selections are available for check out through the school library, so there is no cost to participate. Many titles are also available at the Fort Worth Public Library and as eBooks or audiobooks on the Sora app.
