Miss Harp

Amy Harp

This is my sixth year at Timberview teaching dyslexia with "big kids". Before Timberview, I spent 20 years teaching kiddos to read in kindergarten at Willis Lane and North Riverside Elementaries as well as a year in FWISD. I graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1998 with Reading and Early Childhood specializations, and in 2020, I completed my training for and earned the Certified Academic Language Therapist certification for dyslexia therapy. I love to learn - especially about how the brain works. :)

Outside of school, I have a wonderful family who all live in the area. My parents live nearby, and one brother, his wife, and my 14 year old niece, Sarah, are close-by as well. My other brother and sister-in-law are music educators in McKinney ISD. The youngest blessings in my family are 10-year-old Margaret and 3-year-old Luke.  I also have lots of family in the Metroplex and beyond, and we are often gathering to hang out, play cards, and travel together. It's become an annual summer tradition for the "Harp girls" to make some sort of trip.

I worship and serve at Keystone church where I am actively involved in the women's ministry and community groups.

I love movies and popcorn, puzzles, playing games, Sonic drinks, pedicures, chips and salsa, and visiting with family and friends.

I am beyond blessed to be at Timberview, and I LOVE working with middle school kids more than I could have ever imagined!  My first year out of elementary, I learned they are just kindergartners in bigger bodies...BUT they get my humor. :) I don't think I could ever go back!

Beyond daily reading instruction, I am passionate about helping my learners understand how their brains function and how they best learn as they come to embrace their neurodiversity. We also work on learning to advocate for ourselves as dyslexic learners.  When they leave my class, my goal is for them to feel empowered, confident, supported, and loved.

Your kids are my "why"!
