What We Are Learning
RLA-Students will identify various text features in reading non-fiction, such as captions, bold text, text boxes, pictures, graphs, maps, and more. Students will identify various text structures in non-fiction. Students will learn new prefixes for this unit. In writing, they will use various text features and text structures of non-fiction in their writing.
Math- Students are learning to represent division problems with a decimal number as the dividend using concrete and pictorial models.
Accelerated Math - Students are learning to write a ratio between comparing two quantities and use multiplicative reasoning to explain the proportional relationships.
Science- Students are learning to design a simple experimental investigation that tests the effect of force on an object in a system such as a car on a ramp or a balloon rocket on a string.
Social Studies- Students will explain how early colony settlements became successful with good leaders, a form of government, and overcoming the hardships of a new land. They can also explain the impact the Europeans had on the natives. The students will explain how the geography, climate, and resources of a region influenced the economic activity in the early colonies. Students will define free enterprise and give an example of how it worked in the colonies and how it works in modern society.
