In 3rd grade students began their multiplication and division journey with their basic facts and moving on to two digit by one digit multiplication. In 4th grade we transition to two-digit by two digit multiplication and four digit by one digit division. If students have not developed fact fluency yet, these two concepts become increasingly more difficult to practice and master. I've added a comparison below so that you can see the where students ended in third and where they are headed in fourth.
