We Want YOU in the FHMS Band!

What instrument will you play?

Parents and/or Guardians,

We are SO EXCITED to welcome a new class of band students to the band family at Fossil Hill MIddle School next year! Whether you are a current 5th grade family or have a student already at Fossil Hill, we are equally excited to meet you soon!

The first year of band is very unique and exciting! Students will meet in a class with other individuals who play the same instrument. This first year focuses on the skills and fundamentals of this specific instrument to help them be prepared for a full band experience as a second year band member and beyond.

The time has come to decide what instrument your student will play on their band journey! This process is a lot of fun, and students will remember FOREVER. We have high school students who still talk about this process 5, 6, and 7 years later!

To decide on an instrument, students will go through the instrument selection process. This is an opportunity to do a hands-on trial run of each instrument. They will get to touch and hold as many instruments as they wish, make sounds, and see and hear models of each one. They will receive a score on each instrument they try to help them decide which one is the best fit for their success. EVERY STUDENT WILL FIND AN INSTRUMENT OPTION. EVERYONE MAKES IT. THERE IS A PLACE FOR EVERYONE IN BAND. NO MATTER WHAT.

Join us on one of the dates below.

You DO NOT need to attend the entire time. The process takes about an hour. Come when you can!

January 30, 2024 - 5:30 - 7:30pm

February 3, 2024 - 9:00a.m - 1:00p.m.

We are so excited to meet you! Questions, please email at hannah.stephens@kellerisd.net

Frequently Asked Questions About Band

Is there a financial obligation to be in band?

While there are some fees associated with band and playing instruments, we work hard to keep the fees as low as possible while still providing the best possible experience for our students. Through fundraising and district support, we are also able to provide scholarships and have a large inventory to provide school owned instruments for a discounted rental fee when needed. Finances should NEVER prevent a student from wanting to join the band program. WE WILL FIND A WAY, NO MATTER WHAT!

My child also plays sports or is involved in other activities. Will they have time for band?

YES! As a beginning band student, they will only have a few events outside of the school day. MANY of our older students are also involved in athletics and other fine arts strands. We work hard to develop great relationships with coaches, and other directors to make participation in many programs possible. The students in multiple activities are often our BEST students.
