Easy Fixes that Often Work
Check to be sure that the device is charged and on.
Close all apps, and restart the device.
Try a forced restart :: Hold the down volume button and the power button at the same time until the device powers off. Restart the device.
Uninstall and reinstall the app in the self-service app.
For blue keyboard cases that don't function correctly: remove the device from the case, wipe clean the silver points of connection on the side of the iPad and the device, and place the iPad back into the case, bumping the side to ensure a connection.
