Howdy!

Welcome to 7th Grade Science! My name is Randall Harris.  I am teaching my 24th year of science; my fourth at Fossil Hill.

I am a graduate of Texas A&M with a B.S. in Kinesiology.

Angela is my wife of 26 years (also a teacher), and we have three children Madeleine(22), Ethan(19), and Anelise(15).

In my free time I enjoy all sports, going to the lake, hanging out with my family, going to church events, and doing home improvement.

In 7th grade, we cover mostly life science. We explore physical and chemical changes, cells, heredity, body systems, plant systems, ecology, catastrophic events and human impacts. We end the year with an earth and space unit.

It should be a good year, and I look forward to moving through it with you.

Succession and Biomes

Students have been learning how the envirionment is constantly changing. Sometimes it is minor and sometimes it is dramatic.  How an environment rebuilds from the disturbance can be classified as primary or secondary succession. Students will look at examples of these disturbances and the predictable stages the environment will move towards to be a thriving climax community.

We will look at the factors of climate that dictate the types of biomes we have on earth.  We will discuss the characteristics the plants and animals will need to survive and call these environments homes.
