In 2023, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) issued a call for proposals for the “MEXT Promotion of Development of a Joint Usage/Research System Project: Coalition of Universities for Research Excellence (CURE) Program.” This initiative aims for the Inter-University Research Institutes and the Joint Usage/Research Centers at national, public, and private universities to formulate plans for establishing “new systems (hubs)” to collaborate with research institutions and researcher communities beyond their traditional networks and promote the realization of initiatives, including expansion into new research fields based on these plans, fostering the next generation of researchers, and creating new industry collaborations. As a result, eight research programs were selected.
【Our Program】
Title:
Establishing a collaborative intelligence platform towards extending healthy life expectancy
Concept:
The institutes with outstanding achievements in research on “cancer,” “aging,” “inflammation,” and “metabolism” will unite to form a network to develop new interdisciplinary fields for extending healthy lifespan by expanding flexible collaboration and cooperation at the organizational level beyond joint research among researchers. The program will activate joint usage/research activities and pioneer the interdisciplinary “Healthy Lifespan Science” field by forming a “hub” where researchers from various fields in Japan and overseas can participate, transcending the boundaries of the research fields and research communities traditionally covered by each research institution. Additionally, the goal is to contribute to forming a healthy society by connecting academic research findings to social implementation.
