Course Summary
In this seminar, participants will learn about the evolution of urban space and current practices. We will examine the most important dimensions that influence the development of towns and cities today and how factors such as transportation, politics, and culture are reflected in the spatial and temporal organization of the urban environment. Through case studies of urban space and architecture, the course will also focus on analysing residential spatial space by studying the interrelationships between the users of space and the designed space.
Using discussions and presentations, students are encouraged to analyse their spatial experience by applying theoretical concepts.

Faculty Profiles
I studied for six years at a national architecture school in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, where I obtained a national architectural license. Moroccan architecture schools mainly take a geography and social science approach, but I also wanted to expand my knowledge of the environment and sustainability. I thought that SFC in Japan would allow me to rediscover what I had learned from a broader perspective.
This seminar aims to develop a sense of critical reasoning in observing the characteristics and recurring variations of public and private space in today's cities. Priority will be given to practical case studies rather than theoretical courses.
