Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for students
Introduction:
CCC Kei Long School has decided to implement a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy. BYOD enhances teaching and learning and cultivates a student-centered learning environment where students can become digitally proficient citizens in the 21st century.
It is important that students and parents are familiar with the terms under which these devices can be used within the campus.
Definitions used:
1. The acronym BYOD stands for “Bring Your Own Device”. Starting from 2019/20 academic year, all F.1 and F.2 students need to bring their own devices to be used in classrooms under the direct supervision of their teachers.
2. “School” refers to CCC Kei Long College.
Filtering and Monitoring:
1. The School filters contents on the Internet for student access. However, at times, inappropriate materials may bypass the filters and can be viewed by students. Students should report such occurrences to their teachers or the e-Learning Committee. Students will be held accountable for any deliberate attempt to bypass district filters and security.
2. Access of the wireless network may be monitored and/or recorded for the purposes of network security and student safety.
3. All devices must be registered with the School IT Support Team and install required software.
4. The School reserves the right to maintain and inspect all devices. If there is a violation of the rules, students should cooperate and display the content inside the devices if requested.
Security:
A label from IT support team will be attached to the registered device (next to the screen). These labels are NOT to be removed or modified. If they become damaged or missing, students can contact the general office for replacement.
1. All devices must be stored in locked lockers when not in use.
2. The School strongly recommends the use of protective casesfor protection and identification purposes.
3. Students should report to the general office immediately upon the loss of the device.
Charging:
Students are responsible for the maintenance and charging of the batteries of their devices. To ensure productivity, students are expected to come to school every day with a fully charged battery and they are allowed to use the School’s power supply or their own power adaptors on campus.
Guidelines:
Below are guidelines for students when using their personal devices around the campus:
1. The School is not liable for any loss, damage, or thievery of devices brought to school.
2. All devices must be shut down and stored in locked lockers when not in use.
3. Students can only use the devices under teachers' supervision and approval. The devices should be turned off at any other time. After lessons, students are only allowed to use the devices during lunch time and after school in specific venues (library and computer room).
4. Students can only use School-approved applications or programs in their devices.
5. Students must comply with copyright laws.
6. Students can only access the Internet via the School wireless network and not their private mobile networks (e.g. 4G LTE).
7. Students are prohibited from photo-taking or video/voice-recording, and should not share them on the internet without their teachers' permission.
8. Students are prohibited from modifying their devices illegally, or spreading cyber viruses via the internet.
9. Students are NOT allowed to use any instant messaging applications (e.g. WhatsApp, WeChat, etc.) on school campus.
10. Students are not allowed to use mobile phones to replace a tablet computer in the lessons.
11. Students can use their devices for educational purposes only.
12. Students should never share usernames or passwords with others.
13. The School can check any suspected tablet computers that may violate the rules, or be attacked or infected by virus.
14. The School reserves the right to censor any websites or programs which are not for educational purpose.
Consequences for Violations:
If reasonable belief suggests that the student has violated the terms of this agreement, or other school policy, the student's device may be inspected. Any student violating the terms of this agreement will receive punishment(s).
