FAQs: What is Attention Coaching
1. What is attention coaching?
Attention coaching helps clients develop strategies to improve focus, organization, time management, and follow-through. It is a strengths-based and solution-focused, helping build confidence and independence in managing school/work, and life responsibilities.
2. How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching focuses on present and future goals, skill-building, and practical strategies. It does not diagnose, treat, or explore emotional or mental health issues the way therapy does. If therapeutic needs arise, we will refer families to the appropriate licensed professionals.
3. Who do you work with?
I specialize in working with:
Middle school and high school students, especially those with ADHD or executive function challenges
Parents, to help them support their child's independence and growth
Adults who need assistance with executive functioning skills
4. What does a typical coaching session look like?
Each session is personalized but may include:
Reviewing current goals (like planner use or homework tracking)
Identifying roadblocks or habits that are getting in the way
Practicing specific strategies (like checklist use or planning)
Encouragement, accountability, and celebrating small wins!
5. Do you work with parents too?
Yes! Parent coaching is a key part of what I offer. I help families:
Build consistent support systems at home
Reduce conflict around schoolwork
Understand executive functioning from an ADHD-friendly lens
Partner more effectively with schools
6. Do you diagnose ADHD?
No. I do not diagnose or provide medical or psychological treatment. I work with students with or without a formal diagnosis seeking better organization, focus, and follow-through in school and life.
7. Where and how do sessions take place?
Coaching is available: Virtually (via Google Meet), In-person (limited to the Metrowest, MA area), Phone Consultations
Sessions are scheduled weekly or biweekly and typically last ~60 minutes.
8. How long does coaching last?
This varies. Many clients begin to see improvement in 6–12 weeks, but longer-term support is often helpful during major transitions (e.g., starting middle school, preparing for high school, starting a new job, moving into a new home). We'll regularly check in to evaluate progress and goals. Some parents appreciate having an outside person help with conversations about how to manage school work.
9. How much does it cost?
Rates vary by session length and frequency. Packages and sliding scale options may be available. Please reach out directly for current rates and availability.
10. How do I get started?
Start with a consultation! We’ll talk about your child or your needs, goals, and whether coaching is a good fit.
