Summer Resources for Families

Kindergarten Readiness

In preparation for Kindergarten, we suggest families use the linked summer calendar for guidance on simple, yet impactful activities to support and prepare them for what's ahead. These play-based activities encourage positive interactions between children and families while also supporting early experiences with literacy, numeracy, thinking, language, fine and gross motor skills, and other areas that will ready students for Kindergarten.

English Language Arts K-8

Summer is a time for family and fun, and a time to step into good reading habits. We strongly encourage all families to ensure students are reading for at least 15 minutes (grades K-2) and a minimum of 30 minutes (grades 3-8) each day. In hopes that families and students will plan for daily reading time, we are pleased to share summer reading challenge options for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5. For students entering Grades 6-8, students are strongly encouraged to read at least two books cover-to-cover this summer. In addition please find grade level links below that will provide students with practice throughout the summer months. Each topic and skill provided in these grade level links was identified as an area needing support based on grade level expectations from this Spring's At Home Assessment. If you would like any summer learning resources printed for your child please reach out to the Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction- Christine Formica at Cformica@keansburg.k12.nj.us.
