Ryan Rodriguez is a Puerto Rican who moved to the United States at 5 years old with his family. As a kid growing up with Aspbergers(now ASD) in a new country, Ryan often found comfort in the world of video games, animation and graphic novels and gave him the strength to face any obstacle. “The fantasy worlds crafted in fiction always seemed to sweep me away”, Ryan stated as he thinks back on why he always gravitated towards stories of fantasy worlds.
Ryan discovered his passion for illustration when he was only a freshman in high school, devoting his life then on to improving his talents and developing his storytelling skills. He is incredibly passionate about designing characters that reflect LGBTQ+ themes and plans on utilizing them in the future in an animation studio or gaming company to create diverse characters that a wider audience can enjoy. He is working to achieve his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 2024 alongside a minor in Psychology, which he plans on using to better create backstories for characters that are realistic and easy for people to empathize with.
His ultimate goal is to publish his own original manga series that tackles serious issues such as racism, sexuality, gender and mental illness and serve as a comfort to those who suffer from being oppressed or misunderstood by the world around them and help educate those who are unfamiliar with the struggles people around them face. Ryan plans on publishing his story worldwide, where he desires for people like him to read it and provide comfort for them in difficult times in their lives, and eventually have it adapted in an anime for more people to consume and enjoy it.
