Located at 129 Tallwood Lane in Willingboro, New Jersey is a well known sitcom family home. The Gallagher family has ups and downs with one another, but the major source of conflict is Frank, the father of six children. So Frank was removed from the situation and now has his own space in the English basement. Considering a member of the family was removed from the main room, the idea is represented through the general design and materials used. There are three boxes coated with charred wood, and as the pieces are removed, “fresh” wood is exposed (Spring 2024)
Based on the idea of motion and dimension of hair, the form of the building is an abstraction of hair types and braiding patterns in three dimensions. We want users to flow through the building’s commercial area by guiding them through paths that will always lead towards a maker business or a common area. The residents of the building will also enjoy these spaces while also having their own experiences through private balconies and an indoor/outdoor rooftop amenities space that frames multiple views around the city. Our ultimate goal is to through the use of design celebrate and establish a supportive shared working/living space for small and micro business owners of color in the same economically thriving sector from which they were exiled (Fall 2023)
