About Me

I grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina in a very small town, so small that we only had one tiny grocery store in town! I spent my childhood playing in the woods and creating elaborate stories about the world around me. Because the town was so small, I went to boarding school for high school and was very lucky to have a world class education from Oldfields School.

After high school, I moved west to to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. While I was studying psychology with a focus on child development, I spent every extra second I could traveling the USA. I am proud to say I have visited all of the states in America apart from Hawaii, Alaska, and North Dakota. Traveling the country has given me a chance to meet tons of people and learn about their lives.

After I finished my bachelor's degree, I took a job working at a wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary in Colorado. It was an amazing experience to work with sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife. After 4 years, I realized my favorite part of the job was teaching children so I returned to the University of Colorado where I earned my teaching credential.

I moved to California in 2008 and taught first grade in the Bay Area for 2 years. While living there I earned my English language development certification from Sanford University Continuing Education. But I was a small town girl at heart and the big city was no place for me!

In 2010 I saw a job listing for an elementary position in King City and applied for the job right away. At first I wasn't too sure about the move, but once I started meeting people in King City I knew I was in the right place. The warm welcome and kindness I have experienced have been amazing! I am proud to call King City home, though I do get the travel bug every summer and go back to those beautiful woods in North Carolina! I still have a deep love for animals and the outdoors. I spend my free time hiking with my dog, running 5k races, gardening, and helping out with community theater.
