Climbing Mexico's tallest mountain offers mountaineers a chance to experience snow climbing on a glacier that isn't too crack-filled, and at a medium altitude. Many guide services include spending a few days on smaller peaks first to get used to the height, then aim for Orizaba's 5,636m peak over one or two days. On the main climbing day, you start at the Piedra Grande hut and follow a path until you reach the Jamapa Glacier at around 5,000m. From there, you climb up snow and ice slopes that are at a 40-degree angle until you reach the summit.
