If you had a chance to start your own business, what kind of shop would you open? Would it be related to your own interests or just something trendy and popular recently? Could you even persuade people to visit your shop? Our third graders have come up with some great ideas about the shops they have always dreamed of having.
Pursuing the Dream
After watching the story of Marble King, a boy named Harlé Jordean who opened his marble shop at the age of 8, we encouraged students to reflect on their own interests. They had a chance to focus on themselves. We asked the students to take notes about what they really love. They were eager to share their interests. Some of them even pointed out the things their parents never let them do, which became the reason to open their dream shop.
During the discussion, they planned the products they would sell in their dream shop. To attract people and get their attention, they highlighted the special features of those products. That way, customers would know the differences between students’ products and those available in other shops. As students chose the products for their dream shop, they focused more on practical uses for customers rather than just their own preferences.
Learning Effective Advertising Techniques and Crafting Enticing Offers
Once students had a clear picture of the products they wanted to sell, we taught them business strategies for real life—such as using bandwagon advertising and providing special offers to attract customers. Our kids researched various real-world advertisements from magazines and TV and took careful notes.
During the research, the students realized that bandwagon advertising encourages people to buy a product by influencing them with the idea that others are doing it. This technique makes people feel like they'll miss out if they don't act quickly. They also learned that using numbers, actual facts, or endorsements from well-known individuals can make advertisements more convincing.
Most exciting were the special offers—students wanted to offer generous discounts in their shops. Whether it was buy 2 get 1 free or offering a free gift with a purchase over a certain amount, they were eager to entice customers to their dream shop.
Ready for the Grand Opening
Each student acted as the shop owner and introduced their dream shop in writing. They used all the persuasive writing skills they learned to attract customers. They described the products and their special features and persuaded people to visit to purchase their best-selling products. By using bandwagon advertising and special offers, they hoped to attract more customers.
Since students could choose the kind of shop to open based on their passions, they were excited to write more and more. The final touch was drawing and designing the shop’s appearance. Students came up with colorful, creative designs based on their imagination and passion for their products.
Our students presented their dream shop to their parents on English Open Day. They all eagerly anticipated this opportunity to showcase the excellence of their envisioned establishments.
This Achieve Writing encouraged students to use their imagination and learn to persuade people using effective techniques. Through this process, they not only exercised their imaginations but also learned valuable business skills. By focusing on practical details, the students demonstrated a remarkable ability to plan and strategize. These experiences are not just playful exercises; they lay the groundwork for real-life entrepreneurial endeavors. As they grow up, the skills and creativity they developed through this project could help them turn their dreams into successful businesses!

My Dream Shop

I want to open a coffee shop because on a cold day, my dad took me to a coffee shop and bought bubble milk for me and my brother to drink. When I was drinking it, I was glowing with so much happiness that I could even leap up to the sky and give the stars a high-five. The bubble milk was so delicious and warm, like a warm hug from my mom on a cold winter’s night.
The three products I will make are coffee, bubble milk, and cakes.If you drink it on cold days, you will feel warm. The bubble milk will be warm but not hot. The cake's special feature is different flavors in each between each layer. We have different flavors like orange, strawberry and banana.
