About the KCIA School Counseling Program

The School Counseling Program is made up of direct and indirect student services. Check out all that we do!

School Counseling Core Curriculum:

Just like teachers, the school counselors follow a curriculum that provide students structured lessons to promote knowledge, skills, and attitudes of healthy development. This curriculum focuses on social-emotional, academic, and career areas. Lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, educational, and developmentally appropriate. We love to collaborate with teachers and help reinforce classroom learning in our lessons, and we get to visit each classroom at least once a month!

Individual Student Planning:

The school counselors are also around to help students plan for their future and set personal goals for themselves! For some, this may be an academic goal, and for others, it may be a personal goal. This service is especially important in middle school, as we help students research, select, and apply for their high schools of choice.

Responsive Services:

Sometimes, things come up. When students have immediate needs or concerns, the school counselors are here to help address the issue. We sit down with students, discuss the issue, and help figure out a way we can solve it. We like to think of ourselves as a teammate to students, supporting and helping them reach their goals. This is also a great way for students to develop and apply their problem-solving skills!

What does a school counselor do?
