The KCD Singing for Stage Intensive combines the best of college-level instruction in singing and acting for the musical theater stage. The program is designed for students ages 12 through 19 (or rising 6th through 12th) who are working toward college auditions, building a performance portfolio, or simply considering a deeper dive into the world of the musical stage.
Our nationally recognized faculty will work with students on audition techniques, movement, fight choreography, score analysis, song interpretation, and promotional material preparation during this two-week intensive. Students entering their senior year will also be offered the opportunity to complete all the requirements for the GetAcceptd.com Musical Theatre Common Prescreen Requirements, the prescreening used by many college BFA programs, during their residency with the KCD SSI.
Each morning will begin with a group seminar such as Musical Theater Style, Surviving a Dance Call, Dissecting the Score, and The Healthy Belt: How to last in the business. All students will also receive two 60-minute private voice lessons with one of the resident voice faculty.
Week 1 culminates with a cabaret performance on Friday night on the KCD Theater stage with students showcasing the audition songs they worked on that week. Week 2 culminates with a scenes showcase for an invited audience of family and friends. Each student is featured in a solo, a duet, and an ensemble number.
Below is a typical day's schedule:
9:00-9:50 AM Group Seminar (acting, singing, fight/movement, college/audition prep)
9:50 -10:00 AM Break
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Surviving a Dance Call
12:00PM - 1:00PM Lunch (at the Paddock Shops or bring your own). All eat together.
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Cabaret or Scenes Coachings
