In this section of the unit we will look at some of the factors that cause people to join gangs in the first place. Ross Kemp goes into some of the most dangerous places on earth in order to try and understand what the appeal of gangs is.

The two key questions that we need to ask of his documentaries are:

1. How does being in a gang contribute to a sense of identity for the gang members?

2. Are the people that join these gangs a product of nature or nurture?
