Introduction and Registration Criteria

INTRODUCTION

EE-499 Senior Design Project (SDP) is a two-semester (Term-1 and Term-2) course, extendable to a maximum of three semesters. Project ideas/topics are gathered from the customers within the university and outside (industry etc.).

• Term-1 (not registered in ODUS) is a qualification term in which a student fulfills the pre-requisite course requirements and joins a team; the team then selects an advisor and a project topic to work on; the team also does literature study and brainstorming, and eventually develops a complete design document along with other preliminary preparations.

- The student has also to attend several concept sessions and submit homework assignments.

- The student has to meet with his team, advisor and customer, and actively participate in the design process.

Passing in Term-1 is a pre-requisite for Term-2.

• Term-2 (registered in ODUS) is for actual execution of the design and development of a working prototype along with fulfillment of some other (ABET etc.) requirements.

REGISTRATION CRITERIA

A student expecting to fulfill the following pre-requisite criteria at the beginning of the Fall-2021/22 semester can apply.

1- At lest 105 accepted Acquired Credit Units (ACUs) including waived English courses, or seven (7) semesters from one’s ODUS plan of study.

Note: courses other than one’s original plan of study will not be accepted.

2- Having a concrete plan to complete eight (8) semesters of one’s ODUS plan of study by the end of Fall-2021/22 semester (Term-1). This will include passing:

• all XX-1XX (100 level) courses,

• all XX-2XX (200 level) courses with an exception of IE-256,

• all XX-3XX (300 level) courses up to 8 semesters + EE-366,

• any 9th semester XX-3XX (300 level) course(s) required for doing a specific project.

3- Not planning to register “EE-400 Cooperative Training” before passing EE-499.

CONDITIONAL ALLOWANCE FOR EE-400 REGISTRATION

A student may be allowed to register EE-400 Cooperative Training at the beginning of Summer-2021 with the following conditions.

• Absolutely no missing course prerequisites as mentioned in 2. above.

• Already formed a team and has permission of the other members.

NOTE: all members of a team will NOT be allowed to register EE-400.

• Will be surely able to do all the Term-1 activities including:

  • regularly attending all the concept sessions,

  • submitting all homework assignments on time,

  • attending all the EE-499 examinations (presentations etc.)

  • regularly meeting with team, advisor and customer,

  • actively participating in the project design process.

• Has applied well before time and acquired conditional acceptance/permission from the Departmental SDP Committee.
