The framework presented in this workshop utilizes research, best practices, and evidence-based teaching strategies to design and implement culturally responsive instruction, while also emphasizing the importance of self-reflection to clearly define who we, the educators, are. In knowing how to draw from both our own backgrounds and theirs, we can more effectively serve students from ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds. Participants will receive a copy of the book, Pathways to Greatness provided by OOL.

In this session, participants will learn to take a critical stance when analyzing texts, discover resources for finding and integrating culturally sustaining literature in the classroom, and consider how to invite all students to engage in discussions that lead to empathy and compassion. Level 2: Growing Students in Reading & Writing Workshop for Support Teachers
(2.5 Credit Hours Each Day)
This is a leveled-up course for the support teacher who has mastered the basics. Ideally, they would have attended either Units of Study Basics of Reading and Writing Level 1 or Nuts & Bolts of Workshop in previous years. In the course, support teachers will learn about using data to drive instruction in small groups, advanced conferring techniques to grow readers and writers, and how to plan small groups effectively. Participants of this course will engage in 3 synchronous zoom sessions.
Co-Teaching for English Learners: 4-Part Virtual Series

Prerequisite: Participants who enroll must attend with a co-teaching partnership/s.
Gone are the days when our ELs are taught in isolation! The co-teaching professional development series is twofold: (1) designed to help participating educators engage in critical conversations, reflections, and action planning around collaborative practices for ELs, (2) to review, evaluate, and adapt the collaborative instructional cycle, as well as, the seven co-teaching models that promote an integrated delivery in K-5 instructional settings. Participants will engage in four 90-minute synchronous zoom sessions and in an asynchronous book club using the book Co-Teaching for English Learners by Dove and Honigsfeld.

Creating Meaningful Learning Environments with ReadyRosie
Participants in this training will explore the ReadyRosie online tools, learn how to get started and effectively utilize the resource to reinforce what students are learning in the classroom. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge to support campus staff in the implementation of ReadyRosie. The OOL offers an account to ReadyRosie to all PK teachers at non-title campuses, K-2 ESL classroom teachers, ESL ISSTs, K-2 BL teachers, instructional coaches and administrators to support families of English learners and immigrant students. Participants will engage in a synchronous zoom session.
