About Our School
Elbert and Margaret Morton moved to Katy in 1896 with their six children. They bought land in a "School Section," and their family began farming rice and raising cattle. Unfortunately, their first house was destroyed in the Great Storm of 1900. However, they rebuilt it at the same location, and it has been replaced twice since. Today, James and Ida Morton live in the current house. Keith and Lee Morton, grandsons of Charles and Beulah, still run the cattle and horse operation. The Morton family has lived at the same location since December 1896. All seven of their children attended the Katy School system, and three generations of Mortons have attended Katy ISD schools.
School Colors: Purple & Gold
School Mascot: Maverick
Founding School Year: 2008-2009
In 2008, a group of educators arrived at Morton Ranch with a vision to provide a legendary learning experience. They have always focused on strong relationships, authentic experiences, and lifelong learning. At Morton Ranch, relationships are everything. The school intentionally builds relationships among its "Maverick family" of all ages. Children are taught in a way connected to real life, and the school aims to create life-enriching experiences for all children, lighting a fire in their hearts that leads to lifelong learning.
The Maverick Mission Statement

The Counselor's Role
MRE counselors play a critical role in promoting students' overall well-being by addressing their academic, personal, and social needs. Their primary role is to help students develop positive attitudes and behaviors, cope with challenges, and succeed academically. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive school environment. Counselors also provide appropriate referrals to outside resources when necessary. They also organize workshops and programs to address issues such as bullying and mental health. Overall, the MRE counselors advocate for students and work to ensure their success and well-being.
MRE Counselor Role in Leadership and Advocacy
The MRE Counselors participate in leadership by serving as role models for students, staff, and parents, demonstrating effective communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. They advocate for the needs of students by collaborating with teachers and administrators to create a positive school environment, promote mental health awareness, and provide resources for academic and personal growth. The counselors also advocate for individual students by providing guidance and support, facilitating meetings with parents and teachers, and connecting students with community resources. Through their leadership and advocacy efforts, the counselors play vital roles in promoting student success and well-being.
