Challenges - An Essential Life Skill

Dealing with challenges is an essential life skill. Learn why it is so important and how you can help young children learn and practice these skills. Challenging, risky play helps children to learn about themselves and to work out what their own individual limits are. Children learn skills to manage risk through play and these skills can be used in other life-long situations. You can help your child deal with challenges by being present, engaged and remaining a constant source of support for your child. Allow and promote risk-taking. It's tempting as parents and caregivers to protect children from every potentially stressful or risky situation. Failure is a natural and necessary part of life. Help your child learn to deal with challenges and failures by encouraging them to adopt a growth mindset and teach them to see failures as opportunities to learn, grow and do things differently next time.

Toddlers love to scribble as they explore their creativity and put their ideas on paper. It’s also considered “pre-writing”, a task that gets them one step closer to writing letters. When we add tracing to our little one’s drawing time, it helps them refine those pre-writing skills, laying a strong foundation for drawing and emerging writing. A curve pattern was drawn by the teacher in their notebook using poster color and the learners traced over it by moving the crayon in the correct direction and also knowing the name of the pattern.

Magnets are one of those magical toys that everyone loves. Children love them because they are intriguing, yet easy to learn. The matching of the picture to the letter was a significant magnet activity where learners had to slide the magnet to match the picture to the correct letter by saying its sound.

Learning to identify and describe colours improve the children's ability to communicate and express themselves. A recap of red and yellow colour was done helping them to know the red and yellow coloured objects by their name. For better understanding sorting activity was done, where learners sorted red and yellow colour pom-pom balls using a tweezer. Learners enjoyed doing this activity. A recap of oral counting of numbers was done where learners arranged 1 to 5-number flashcards in a sequence. Learners also did freehand drawing for a triangle shape in their scrapbook thus knowing the name of the shape, its sides and corners, as well as the rhyme related to the shape.

Literacy Circle

Literacy circles allow students to talk about pictures with their sounds. Learners start to develop the decoding ability at an early age thus inculcating in them strong phonological awareness skills, which is a gateway into the letter-sound knowledge. Phonics knowledge allows learners to understand the link between sounds and letters. For better understanding, Fizroy's reader book for sounds /i/, /k/, and/ l/ was done by singing their phonic sound and associating it to the picture shown in the book.  Learners were also learning to trace the letter using their pointer fingers by producing the correct sound. Learners were able to open their books and follow the instructions shared by the teacher.

Music

The learners were taught the song based on “My Family” and they were able to understand and know their close family members. The learners also had fun in being a part of the freeze dance game where all the learners danced to the rhythm of the music.

Learning to write the alphabet helps children to recognize letters, associate them with sounds, and form words. Children must first master the fundamental abilities of writing before they can write. These abilities help the learners to grip and utilize a pencil as well as draw, write, copy, and colour. In this cycle, the teacher instructed the students to write lowercase letters “c” and “k” in their notebooks. The majority of students could write on their own, but some needed the teacher’s assistance to enhance their writing abilities and gain confidence. To explore the magical world of art through the alphabet, this week the teacher asked learners to draw objects for the given alphabets on the art sheet, learners used their imagination and drew objects associated with the given alphabets. This activity helps learners to develop concentration. It also improves Hand-Eye coordination and boosts confidence. A recap of blending words was done through flash cards. This helps learners recognize and pronounce words accurately, enabling them to become confident readers and effective communicators as they progress through their education.

By practising backwards counting, learners learn to recognize the pattern of numbers decreasing and develop a better grasp of the concept of “counting down.” An activity was conducted where learners placed stars on the rocket while counting backwards. Learners wrote numbers 9 and 10 which enabled them to recognize, write, and understand the significance of the numbers while promoting number sense and fine motor skills. The teacher guided the learners to form the digits 9 and 10 while following the proper stroke sequence. Using a light table for shapes activities was a captivating and educational experience for learners. It was full of fun and engaging activity using a light table and geometric shapes. The teacher provided the learners with various shape templates. They picked up the corresponding shapes and completed the sorting activity.

In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven society, teaching children manners is something that is more crucial than ever. One of the most important jobs we have as teachers is to help our children develop social skills. Learning to say “Thank you” and “Please” are basic manners that all kids should be taught. The importance of saying “Please” when a child asks for something, and “Thank you” when receiving something is an important virtue for children to learn from an early age. Good manners start by greeting people, respecting them, helping people and being for them when in need. Washing hands before eating, brushing teeth twice, and staying clean and healthy is part of good manners and proper conduct. Learning good manners and skills will make learners confident about themselves as they will be able to express their feelings openly. Learning good manners skills will help learners boost their self-esteem. Learning good manners and skills develops great virtues in learners.

Literacy Circle

Literacy circle reading exposes young children to a wide range of vocabulary, sentence structures, and language patterns. Through reading, children learn new words, phrases, and expressions that help them build their own vocabulary and develop their communication skills .Sight word reading introduces children to a broad range of vocabulary.  Sight words the, and, his, has, he and she are high-frequency words and are commonly used in written texts. As children encounter and read these sight words, they expand their vocabulary and enhance their overall language skills. Three-letter words are the building blocks of simple sentences. As children become proficient in reading three-letter words, they can combine these words to create meaningful and coherent sentences. This enables them to express themselves through writing and reading more complex texts. Words can ,pan,  tan ,cat ,pat ,sat  were drilled using phonic sound and actions for more clear concept.
