Classroom Connection

We are excited to welcome our little learners back to preschool! This month, we will focus on helping children settle in through fun routines, songs, and play. We will be encouraging children to build friendships, express their feelings, and grow in independence. Our classroom will be filled with laughter, creativity, and lots of hands-on learning experiences.

First Day of School

School reopening days are crucial for children as they mark the return to a structured learning environment and social interactions, both essential for their development. These days often bring a mix of excitement and anxiety, making it important to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Reopening provides an opportunity to address any learning gaps or emotional challenges that may have emerged during school closures. A positive start can greatly boost children's confidence and motivation to learn.

As learners began the new academic year, their faces lit up with excitement as they reunited with friends and teachers. Exploring their new school filled them with joy, and a welcome song helped them feel confident and motivated to return. They enjoyed engaging in fun games that fostered essential skills for their journey ahead. An activity focused on self-expression allowed teachers to assess any learning gaps. By the end of the day, the children were happy and eager to return the next day to continue their learning adventure.

NURSERY

ENGLISH

In English sessions, learners participated in fine motor activities like scribbling and finger tracing, strengthening hand control and early writing skills. Phonics songs and visual aids introduced the /s/ sound, while targeted worksheets helped reinforce phonemic awareness and letter formation.

MATH

Math sessions focused on numbers 1 to 5, with activities like counting aloud, using flashcards, and building block towers. These activities strengthened number recognition and sequencing skills. Learners were also introduced to the colour yellow through rhymes, flashcards, and a sorting activity, while the circle shape was explored with clay, reinforcing cognitive and fine motor development.

THEME

The theme of "Myself" encouraged learners to identify personal details like their name, age, and where they live. This activity supported self-awareness, communication skills, and confidence while fostering development in socio-emotional and language domains.

JR.KG

ENGLISH

Our learners engaged in play-based activities to strengthen early literacy and fine motor skills. They practised phonic sounds with interactive flashcards and worked on forming lines and shapes with crayons and clay to develop pencil control. Using pipe cleaners to form curves and curls, learners also explored pre-writing skills. As they decorated their sun and identified the letter/s/, they connected sounds to words. Storytime reinforced phonics knowledge through fun, contextual engagement.

MATH

Learners explored numbers, colours, and shapes in a hands-on way. They counted and matched numbers 1–9 using number cards and real objects. The colour red was introduced through rhymes, flashcards, and drawing red objects. For shapes, they identified squares in their surroundings and created square shapes using popsicle sticks. These activities developed number and shape recognition, color identification, fine motor coordination, and spatial awareness.

THEME

This week, learners explored the five senses through colourful flashcards and videos. They began with the sense of sight, learning how eyes help us see and the importance of eye care. Next, they discovered the sense of hearing through a “Guess the Sound” game. The week also covered the sense of taste, sparking conversations about favourite foods as children learned about sweet, sour, salty, and bitter flavours. These activities enhanced sensory development, supporting physical and cognitive growth through hands-on learning.

SR.KG

ENGLISH

We revised the phonic sounds and letters A to Z through engaging activities and notebook writing. Children were introduced to vowels and consonants, and also practised two-letter words both orally and in written form. The learners successfully recognised and identified both uppercase and lowercase letters (Aa–Zz). They gained an understanding of letter formation and enhanced their fine motor skills through letter-writing activities.

MATH

Learners revisited essential number concepts—recognition, shapes, and number names—through engaging presentations and interactive activities. They were introduced to zero, tens, and ones via a “number land” story and hands-on use of tens-and-ones frames, and then practised writing numerals in sequence, enhancing their understanding of quantity, order, and place value—key components of early number sense that predict later math achievement. During colour exploration, children mixed red and yellow to create orange, engaging in visual experimentation that fostered fine motor skills, scientific inquiry, and creative expression. These integrated, play-based experiences not only strengthened foundational mathematical reasoning, language development, and motor coordination but also nurtured cognitive growth, problem-solving, and imaginative exploration.

THEME

This week’s theme-based sessions enriched children’s understanding of health and well-being in a playful, meaningful way. They learned to distinguish healthy from unhealthy foods using flashcards and real objects, then reflected their learning in a T-chart art activity by sketching examples of each category, showing both enjoyment and clear comprehension. These hands-on nutrition lessons align with studies demonstrating that interactive, theme-based nutrition education improves children’s ability to identify healthy foods and increases their preferences for them. Additionally, they explored personal hygiene through interactive discussions and enjoyable rhymes, reinforcing daily practices like handwashing and cleanliness. Research confirms that introducing hygiene habits early supports lifelong health routines. To sustain learning, children were assigned relevant worksheet pages, solidifying their new knowledge and behaviours.

ACTIVITY

Nursery learners engaged in fine motor tasks like rescuing taped popsicle sticks and using tweezers to transfer pom-poms. These playful activities built grip strength, focus, and coordination, promoting cognitive and emotional growth.

PLAYLAB

Free play encouraged creativity, independence, and communication. Role-play and open-ended activities allowed teachers to observe interests and supported holistic development across social, cognitive, and language domains.

In the PlayLab, children engaged in activities like stacking blocks, counting with rings, and solving number puzzles. These fun games enhanced problem-solving, math skills, and critical thinking, making the session both educational and enjoyable.

READING PROGRAM

Our little learners had a blast in their literacy session! We reviewed alphabet sounds from /a/ to /z/ in one-on-one sessions, while others enjoyed exploring books on their own. They also practised reading 2-letter words, helping to build their early reading confidence. Our young readers are on an exciting adventure of learning and discovery.

As part of our reading enrichment program, Sr.kg learners revisited simple 2-letter words to strengthen their early reading skills. The session began with an engaging flashcard activity using familiar words like in, it, is, at, an, on, up, am, me, no, go. This helped learners build confidence in word recognition and fluency while enjoying the joy of reading.

HORTICULTURE

Our little horticulturists embarked on a nature walk, observing the beauty of plants, trees, and flowers. Back in class, they learned about the importance of greenery and indoor plants through an engaging video session, deepening their connection to nature.

MUSIC

Nursery

Learners joyfully sang "One Little Finger" by Super Simple Songs. Through fun actions like tapping fingers and pointing to different body parts, they built vocabulary and body awareness. The simple, repetitive lyrics made it easy for everyone to join in, boosting confidence and coordination while fostering social connections and a love for learning.

In Jr.Kg, learners dived into the world of senses with the engaging "Five Senses Song". As they sang along and moved to the rhythm, children explored seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching, while learning about the body parts responsible for each sense. The song’s catchy and repetitive lyrics made it easy for every child to participate, reinforcing new vocabulary and concepts in a fun and memorable way.

Sr.Kg learners have been exploring the wonders of the human body through the lively "Human Body Song". With its upbeat rhythm and simple, catchy lyrics, the song introduces key organs—like the brain, heart, lungs, liver, stomach, and skin—along with their locations and functions. As they sang and moved to the music, learners connected new vocabulary with real-life concepts about their bodies, making learning about health both fun and memorable.

ZUMBA

Nursery
This week, our little Zumba stars explored Zumba as a fun way to move, dance, and stay healthy. The session kicked off with light warm-up exercises, followed by dancing to lively songs like “I Like to Move It” and Freeze Dance. They learned simple Zumba steps while enjoying rhythm and playful movements.

Jr.Kg
Learners discovered Zumba as a fun, active way to dance and stay fit. We started with warm-up exercises and stretches, then learned basic steps like step-touch, leg in and out, and spins. A playful circle game helped them practice responding to actions, making it a fun, energetic session of moving and grooving.

Sr.Kg
Our energetic learners began their Zumba session with warm-up exercises to relax their muscles. They were introduced to Zumba in a fun and engaging way, dancing to the song "Singing Louder" while learning each step with easy breakdowns. A lively start to moving, grooving, and learning together.

Topic: Standing Yoga Poses

This week, our Nursery learners practised simple standing yoga poses, focusing on building strength, balance, and body awareness. Through playful activities, they developed their ability to maintain body alignment and improve focus. These activities helped foster gross motor skills development, body coordination, and spatial awareness as children moved through each pose.

Jr. KG learners explored both standing and sitting yoga poses, practising movements that foster flexibility, concentration, and relaxation. These activities promoted flexibility, joint mobility, emotional regulation, and mindfulness, helping the children enhance their physical and emotional well-being.

Sr. KG learners engaged with the Tree Yoga Pose, a fun and challenging posture that encouraged balance, focus, and body stability. By pretending to stand tall like a tree, children improved their concentration, core strength, and posture control, while learning to stabilise their body movements.

Topic: Scribbling and Mess-Free Art

This week, our little artists had a blast exploring scribbling using crayons and markers. They freely expressed their creativity by experimenting with various lines—zigzag, curved, and wavy. In the mess-free art activity, they created vibrant patterns by spreading paint with sealed plastic sheets. These hands-on activities not only boosted their creativity but also helped enhance fine motor skills playfully and enjoyably.

Topic: Scribbling and Elements of Art – Line (Introduction)

Our Jr. KG artists explored scribbling with crayons, creating random marks, lines, and shapes with freedom. They were introduced to different types of lines—straight, curved, zigzag, and wavy—through engaging activities. This exploration enhanced their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity, while offering a joyful opportunity for self-expression.

Sr. KG

Topic: Elements of Art – Line

Sr. KG learners were introduced to the concept of lines as a key element of art. They learned new art vocabulary, such as horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curved, zigzag, and wavy lines. In a fun, hands-on activity, they connected dots using different types of lines, helping them understand line variation and boosting their focus and fine motor skills.

STREAM

Nursery

During the STREAM session, Nursery learners explored Kinesthetic sand, feeling its texture to understand how it changes with touch. They were encouraged to predict which type of sand would be best for building, creating, or drawing. This hands-on activity helped develop their sense of touch while fostering curiosity and exploration.

Jr. KG

During the STREAM session, Jr. KG learners learned that force is a push or a pull that causes objects to speed up, slow down, or stay in one place. The children tested the motion of different objects such as a scale, ball, blocks, cello tape, and a toy car, classifying the motion as rolling, spinning, or sliding. This hands-on exploration helped them grasp the basics of motion and force.

Sr. KG

During the STREAM session, Sr. KG learners observed how colours spread and mix on filter paper when water was dropped on them, exploring the concept of diffusion. This activity not only enhanced their understanding of how substances can mix but also helped in developing their fine motor skills and creativity as they manipulated the materials.
