Basic life skills

Teaching basic life skills to preschoolers is an important aspect of early childhood education.  Children thrive on schedules, habits, and routines, which not only create a feeling of security, but also help children learn self-control and focus.  Life skills are valuable lessons kids will use throughout their lifetime. Important life skills kids need to know include decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, personal hygiene, meal prep, and communication skills. However, many kids don't learn these lessons and how to handle real-world situations until they're in high school.  Children need high-touch personal interactions every day to build healthy social-emotional skills, including the ability to understand and communicate with others.  True learning, says Galinsky, occurs when we can see connections and patterns between seemingly disparate things. The more connections we make, the more sense and meaning we make of the world. Young children begin to see connections and patterns as they sort basic household items like toys and socks. Every parent knows how important time management is to keeping your family on track. But it's also important for kids to learn time management lessons when they're young. Learning basic life skills has many benefits. These include boosting self-esteem and becoming more self-sufficient. If a kid learns these skills at a young age, they are much more likely to be more happy and productive later in life.

Introducing the letter 'v' and its corresponding phonic sound, along with related objects, was a great way to engage young learners. This approach allowed them to associate the visual representation of the letter with its sound and real-world examples, making the learning experience more immersive. Recapping the letter 'z' through an activity involving drawing zigzag lines with paint and a brush was a creative and hands-on approach. This activity served multiple purposes, extending beyond letter recognition. Drawing zigzag lines helps develop fine motor skills, enhancing the coordination between hands and eyes. It also promoted spatial awareness, an essential aspect of cognitive development in young learners.

Math

Number sense not only builds confidence but also encourages flexible thinking, laying the groundwork for future mathematical skills. Regular practice with numbers helps them gain knowledge and mastery in math skills, providing a solid foundation for more advanced concepts later on. Learning basic shapes is another essential aspect of early education. As children start to understand and recognize shapes, they begin to make sense of their surroundings by observing different objects and structures.

Reciting a heart-shaped rhyme and solving a worksheet by colouring heart shapes with crayons added a creative and fun dimension to the learning process. This multi-sensory approach enhances the understanding of shapes and numbers, making the educational experience more enjoyable for young learners.

The recapitulation of roadways, railways, and waterways by asking learners to name vehicles associated with each mode is an effective way to reinforce their understanding. This approach not only helps in vocabulary development but also enhances their observational skills as they connect vehicles to specific transportation modes.

The guided activity of making a boat using origami paper is a creative and hands-on way to further reinforce the concept of waterways. The worksheet related to waterways takes the learning a step further by incorporating a more structured assessment. Having learners identify waterway vehicles by circling them and crisscrossing those not associated provides a practical application of the knowledge they've gained. This type of activity encourages critical thinking and reinforces the concepts in a more formalized way.

Phonics is the foundation of decoding words. Knowing the sounds of letters helps learners sound out and recognize words, facilitating the early stages of reading. Knowledge of phonics helps individuals recognize and apply spelling patterns. To reinforce the different letter sounds worksheet was done along with the writing of the letter 'v' in the book.

The introduction of the letter sound /y/ was done with the help of a letter story. Through clay moulding activity learners made objects associated with the letter /y/  .

Math

The concept of "wet and dry " was introduced to the learners by giving everyday examples to help them grasp the idea. The teacher showcased some dry and wet concrete objects and asked them to touch and observe the differences. Recapitulation of Number names 1 to 3 was done through flashcards and asked the learners to identify the number and write the number name on the whiteboard. Along with this number name 4 was introduced.

Theme

A recap of heavy and light vehicles was done through flashcards and audio-visuals. A recap of the roadway was also done through the flashcards and the learners were asked to recognise the names of the vehicles. A recap of waterways was also done by asking learners if they have to travel through waterways, and what are the different vehicles that run on water. We can have fun by travelling on ferry boats, ski jets, etc. This helps the kids develop a sense of place through learning about different means of transport.

Language is central to one’s learning: without it, we cannot make sense or communicate our understanding of any subject. This week learners were introduced to new words using diagraph ‘oa’ and ‘ow’ and how to break and read words phonetically. In the next session, recapitulation of the ‘ai’ and ‘ie’ words was done with learners. Teaching digraphs to children is important for developing their reading and spelling skills. It also makes their phonemic awareness better. Learners also wrote in notebook Jumbled words and drew the picture for those words. Jumbled letters can help students in improving their pronunciation and spelling and pictures can help students to focus on the process of understanding the word.

Math

Math helps strengthen reasoning skills and critical thinking. It teaches our children to reason logically and think critically about the world.

This week, the students completed a recap of full and empty during the first math session. The lesson was enjoyable for the students. Later in the week’s second session, students finished the assignment on addition in their worksheet book. Following that, a triangle and cone recap was completed during the third session of the week. The learners enjoyed the session and demonstrated their ability to distinguish between the two shapes. Recap of patterns was done in the final session of the week.

It was an educational week. Children thoroughly loved the classes and utilized their time to the most.

Theme

Teaching the theme at the primary stage anticipates exposing learners to the real situations in their surroundings to help them connect, be aware of, appreciate, and be sensitized towards the prevailing environmental issues (natural, physical, social, and cultural). The teacher took the recapitulation of “types and means of communication  “ and explained the importance of the same. Learners did the classwork in a worksheet book related to the topic under the guidance of the teacher.  The teacher also discussed the topic of “information and technology” as a recapitulation. Learners discussed and understood the topics covered by the teacher and completed the classwork under the instructions of the teacher.

Literacy Circle

Rhyming words are words with the same ending sound. When working with rhyming words, it's the sounds that count, not the letters. This week learners used magnifying glasses to find rhyming words along with the introduction of the story Buns and Eggs. The purpose of this activity was to help students identify rhyming words.

An active way for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss, and respond to the story.

Event

Annual Concert

Preparation for the Annual concert in our school is always a busy and exciting time. The concert is a major event that showcases the talents of our students and brings the entire school community together. To ensure that the concert is a success, it is important for everyone to be fully prepared and to work together as a team. To begin with, the students who are participating in the concert need to rehearse their performances and make sure that they are ready to take the stage. This usually involves rehearsing with the music teacher or other instructors and making any necessary adjustments to the performance.  The teachers and staff also play a vital role in the preparation for the annual concert . Overall, preparing for the annual concert requires a great deal of effort and collaboration from everyone involved. By working together and putting in the necessary time and effort, we can create a memorable and successful event that showcases the talents of our students and brings the school community together.
