Academic Support by Parents for Preschoolers

A child’s learning journey becomes more meaningful when school and home work together. At the preschool level, parents play a vital role in supporting academic development through everyday interactions and encouragement.

Simple activities at home such as reading stories together, talking about colors and shapes, counting objects, and encouraging curiosity through questions help strengthen early literacy and numeracy skills. When parents listen patiently and celebrate small achievements, children feel confident and motivated to learn. Creating a positive learning environment at home is equally important. Providing a quiet space for drawing, puzzles, or storytelling helps children focus, while maintaining regular routines builds a sense of security and readiness to learn.

Most importantly, learning at this age should be fun and pressure-free. Through play, conversation, and exploration, parents help preschoolers develop essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, and independence. Together, with consistent support from both parents and teachers, our young learners continue to grow, explore, and enjoy the joy of learning every day.

CLASSROOM CONNECTION

Our learners had an exciting month of exploration and skill-building. Through a mix of Circle Time, learning centres, and team activities, students practiced teamwork and independence. It was wonderful to see them turn play into essential life skills. With a balance of group interactions and individual tasks, students strengthened both friendship and self-reliance. By linking every activity to real-world skills, we saw their confidence grow as they discovered that learning can be both meaningful and fun.

NURSERY

ENGLISH

Learners engaged in creative, hands-on activities such as rainbow tracing, tear-and-paste, and earbud dabbing to develop fine motor precision and pre-writing skills. The focus letters for the month—W, V, Y, and Q—were reinforced through multisensory tasks including watermelon colouring, making a vegetable basket, creating a yarn- string yo-yo, and quilt decoration, which strengthened phonemic awareness, letter–sound association, fine motor control, and creativity. In addition, learners practiced writing letters s, a, c, and e in their workbooks, enhancing letter formation, pencil control, and early writing confidence. A Picture Talk session on “At the Railway Station”, integrated with the transport theme, supported critical thinking, language development, imagination, observation, and communication skills. Sight words were revisited through repetition, promoting quick recognition, vocabulary growth, and fluent sentence reading.

MATH

Learners explored Start and Stop through a hula hoop game, developing listening skills and self-control. The star shape and black and white colours were introduced through hands-on activities and a story, supporting shape and colour recognition. Learners practiced rainbow tracing numbers 6 and 7 and learned numbers 8 and 9 through manipulatives. The session concluded with a matching activity to revise numbers 1–9, strengthening counting and number recognition.

THEME
As part of the transport theme, learners were introduced to Airways and Waterways through interactive activities using flashcards, visuals, inquiry-based questions, and origami paper airplanes. Learning was reinforced with worksheets, followed by a learning center activity where learners sorted vehicle puzzles into roadways, airways, and railways, strengthening conceptual understanding, fine motor skills, and observation.

ENGLISH

Learners were introduced to vowels (A, E, I, O, U) through fun activities to build phonetic awareness. They practiced writing Aa to Zz, focusing on correct formation and grip, and revised vowel sounds through worksheets. Children also practiced writing simple ‘a’ family CVC words, supporting early reading and spelling. A story on the evolution of transport and a picture talk on a busy road scene enhanced vocabulary, observation, creativity, and speaking confidence. Overall, these activities supported early literacy, fine motor skills, and spoken English in an engaging learning environment.

MATH

Our young learners engaged in hands-on activities to strengthen foundational concepts. They practiced numbers 1–40, backward counting, missing numbers, and number names (1–6), enhancing sequencing and writing skills. Shapes were reinforced with the hexagon and a creative Pentagon Bird House activity. Learners explored wet and dry objects through discussions and activities, connecting learning to real life. Creativity was encouraged through drawing a star on black paper, and colour activities introduced grey, golden, and silver, including an elephant craft. Overall, the month focused on building strong basics through practice, observation, creativity, and joyful learning.

THEME

Our learners explored the world of transport, learning about Heavy and Light Motor Vehicles, their differences, and uses. They enjoyed identifying and ticking correct modes of transport in a workbook activity and participated in a drawing activity featuring a traffic signal. In the creative corner, learners made origami boats, learning about waterways and the vehicles that travel on them. A recap of roadways and waterways was followed by a fun quiz to reinforce their understanding. The activities made transport an exciting and engaging topic, providing a fun-filled learning experience.

Role Play

Our learners took to the stage for a fun-filled roleplay activity on transport. Dressed as different modes of transport—such as buses, cars, boats, and more—they confidently spoke about their unique features in a creative and engaging way. This activity helped build confidence, encouraged self-expression, and reinforced their understanding of various transport modes. With imaginative costumes and enthusiastic presentations, the event turned learning into a joyful experience and was truly a transport extravaganza to remember.

ENGLISH

Our learners actively engaged in English activities to strengthen phonics, reading, and writing skills. They practised initial blends (cr, fr, sp), final blends (ck, lk, ft, nd, nt, mp), and digraphs (ai, ie, oa, ow), along with sentence rules and articles A and An. Writing was reinforced through the composition “My Friend” and regular workbook exercises. They reviewed blends, sight words, jumbled words, and word-building, boosting confidence and expression. Grammar topics such as articles, opposites, and prepositions were practiced creatively. Reading sessions, assessments, and portfolios further strengthened literacy skills.

MATH

Our young mathematicians explored number names 21–30, practiced backward counting from 50 to 1, and completed assessments up to 80. Through worksheets and exercises, they worked on addition and subtraction, identifying numbers before, after, and in between, and ordering objects from largest to smallest. They studied spatial concepts like full vs. empty, relative size, and 3D shapes such as pyramids with triangular faces and square bases. Learning was further enriched with experiments on tints, shades, and pattern recaps, showing excellent growth in foundational math skills.

THEME

Theme plays a vital role in helping children understand their environment and daily life. Learners explored communication, technology, and financial literacy through engaging, hands-on activities. To understand connection and technology, they revisited the story “The Mixed-Up Messages” through dramatization and rhymes, highlighting responsible technology use. This was reinforced with portfolio work, including mind-mapping tech concepts and labeling laptop parts.

In financial literacy, the story “Jia’s Piggy Bank” introduced money, saving, and the role of banks. Students identified coins and bills and learned about currency history. The week concluded with learners writing thank-you letters to their parents, blending communication skills with lessons in gratitude and emotional expression.

READING PROGRAM

Nursery

Exposure to reading enhanced learners’ language, imagination, and foundational literacy. This month’s story, “The Pet Hen” from the Fitzroy’s Reader, helped learners connect words with pictures through pictorial reading, improving vocabulary, sound recognition, and early comprehension. Listening to the story on the Fitzroy app further strengthened engagement and understanding.

Jr.Kg

Students explored the story “The Land of the Zond,” which captured their imagination and encouraged them to explore a magical world through reading. They learned new vocabulary, practiced pronunciation, and used words in simple sentences, strengthening reading, listening, and word recognition skills. Interactive discussions, picture clues, and fun activities enhanced comprehension, creativity, and confidence, fostering curiosity and a love for books.

Sr.Kg

Learners participated in an interactive digital reading session using the SAAR software with the story “Buns and Eggs.” The engaging visuals and clear narration supported the development of listening skills, word recognition, and comprehension, while also strengthening confidence in reading and understanding story sequence. This digital reading experience nurtured imagination, focus, and a growing love for books. To further enhance vocabulary and language skills, learners completed exercises from Fitzroy Word Skills reinforcing new words and improving overall literacy development.

STREAM

Nursery

This week, nursery learners explored the Sun, the main source of light and energy on Earth. They learned how the Sun provides light and warmth, helping plants grow and supporting life around us. The teacher connected this concept to everyday experiences, such as flowers blooming and playing outdoors in sunlight. Through engaging activities, learners developed curiosity about our amazing star and understood its importance in their daily lives.

Jr.Kg

This week, Jr KG learners strengthened their fine motor skills through coloring, cutting, and assembling a paper spinner, enhancing hand-eye coordination. They identified and named different colors while selecting and combining them on their spinners, reinforcing color recognition. As the spinner rotated, learners observed how colors blend and change visually, introducing them to basic concepts of color mixing and visual effects. Designing their own spinners allowed learners to express creativity through unique color choices and patterns.

Sr.Kg

This week, the teacher narrated the story “Jack and the Beanstalk” to the learners. They listened attentively and recalled key events such as Jack planting the magic beans, climbing the beanstalk, and meeting the giant. Learners used their imagination to visualize the characters, setting, and events of the story. Through worksheet activities, they expressed their understanding, practiced problem-solving, and shared their ideas confidently.

MUSIC

Nursery learners joyfully sang the classic song “Wheels on the Bus,” bringing movement and sound together in an engaging music session. Children enthusiastically acted out the different parts of the bus—such as the wheels turning and the wipers swishing—while clapping and swaying to the rhythm. They were introduced to egg shakers and learned to play them gently along with the beat, adding excitement to the activity. This session helped develop listening skills, motor coordination, language development, and cooperative participation in a playful musical environment.

Jr KG learners enjoyed a cheerful, action-filled song that introduced them to the theme through singing and movement. Children actively participated by clapping, moving, and following simple actions, which supported the development of listening skills and body coordination. Learners were also introduced to egg shakers and practiced shaking them on a steady musical beat. The activity enhanced rhythm awareness, musical confidence, and joyful group participation.

Sr KG learners participated in a lively and engaging song that helped them understand the importance of communication. Through singing, actions, and rhythm, children learned how to listen carefully, speak clearly, and express themselves confidently. They were introduced to egg shakers and practiced playing them gently to maintain a steady beat along with the music. This activity encouraged coordination, attentive listening, and enthusiastic musical participation.

ART

Nursery
Topic: Creating Patterns on Favorite Objects

The lesson began with children observing everyday objects and discussing their favorite ones. They explored simple shapes, lines, and designs found on these objects, enhancing their ability to notice details. Using color pencils, the children created beautiful patterns on drawings of their chosen objects. This engaging activity helped develop observation skills, creativity, and fine motor control. Learners were excited to identify and create patterns while expressing their ideas through art.

Topic: Introduction to Cubism – Pablo Picasso

Learners were introduced to the fascinating art style of Cubism through the works of the renowned artist Pablo Picasso. The session began with a visual presentation of Picasso’s artworks, and cubism was explained in a simple and enjoyable manner. Children observed how faces and objects were created using different shapes and shown from multiple angles. They noticed unique features such as eyes, nose, and mouth placed in unusual positions. The activity sparked curiosity and encouraged creative thinking, observation, and appreciation for new art styles.

Topic: Relief Print Making

Learners explored the exciting world of relief print making through a hands-on art experience. The session began with an introduction to printmaking, where children learned how designs are created on a surface and transferred onto paper using color. They observed how pressing the design produced beautiful impressions and repeated patterns.

Learners then drew rough sketches using simple shapes and lines to plan their designs before printing. This process helped them organize their ideas while strengthening drawing skills, observation, and fine motor control. Throughout the activity, children displayed enthusiasm, creativity, and growing confidence as they experimented with textures and patterns. The lesson encouraged joyful learning and artistic expression.

PLAYLAB

Students participated in an engaging Play Lab session outdoors, involving maze navigation and shape-matching activities. They explored shapes, solved mazes, and developed problem-solving, spatial awareness, and logical thinking skills. Moving through the maze also improved motor skills, coordination, and focus. The outdoor setting encouraged collaboration, communication, and learning through play, making the session enjoyable and educational while promoting creativity and confidence.

HORTICULTURE

This month, learners explored insects through an engaging audio-visual session using images, sounds, and imitation, which enriched vocabulary and listening skills. Another session focused on fruits and vegetables using colorful visuals and guided cues, helping learners identify them by name, shape, and color while building vocabulary and curiosity about healthy foods and nature.

Our learners participated in an engaging radish planting activity to learn about plants and nature. Radish cuttings were prepared in advance, leaving about two inches of stem. Each learner was given a cutting and guided to fill a tray pot with a soil mixture. They carefully placed the cuttings into the soil and covered them with a layer of soil.
