Developing leadership skills

Leadership skills allow children to have control of their lives and the ability to make things happen. Leadership instils confidence and helps children solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with others. Leadership gives children many opportunities to develop responsibility. Developing leadership skills in preschoolers is crucial for their personal growth and future success. Here are some ways to nurture leadership qualities in young learners

CLASSROOM CONNECTION

Kindergarten is a magical time brimming with wonder and discovery, setting the stage for a child’s lifelong educational journey. In this pivotal year, young learners begin to explore the world around them within a structured environment. As educators, our goal is to create meaningful connections between classroom activities and real-world experiences to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning. By integrating nature walks, storytelling that incorporates real-life experiences, community involvement projects, hands-on science experiments, and cultural celebrations into the curriculum, we create a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Journal Writing

Journal writing enhances toddlers' language, creativity, and fine motor skills while letting them express emotions through drawing, boosting confidence and cognitive growth. As learners enter the classroom, they pour their thoughts into journals, where creativity flourishes. Fatima Shaikh, a young artist from Nursery A, has vividly captured her world, drawing her favourite tiger, a colourful rainy day with a rainbow and umbrella, and beloved toys—showcasing her imagination with elegant flair.

NURSERY

ENGLISH

Letter 'k' with an activity.

In a recent English session, our little learners delved into the sound of 'K,' practising its phonics and connecting it with relevant pictures to support their language and literacy skills. They also had fun stamping shapes onto kites, an activity that boosted their hand coordination and muscle strength, aiding their physical development.

STORY

Storytelling sessions in the nursery are essential, sparking imagination and enriching language skills. This week, our little ones were captivated by "The Lion and the Mouse," brought to life with puppets and magnetic flashcards. Through this interactive activity, they enhanced their comprehension, memory, and sequencing skills while learning valuable lessons about compassion, kindness, and the joy of helping others.

THEME

Introduction of 'family' with activity

During the theme session, our learners explored family roles and relationships. Through a fun activity, they identified and sorted their family members, recognizing whether they belonged to a joint or nuclear family. This exercise deepened their understanding of family dynamics while building social and language skills.

ENGLISH

The teacher introduced the learners to blending words such as sat, cat, and pat, as well as their phonic sounds. Learners wrote the letters 'c' and 'n' in their English notebooks. The teacher also taught the letter 'k' to the students by using flashcards, and phonic sounds, and presenting a story about the letter k. Learners solved the letter maze by locating the letter 'n'.

MATH

This week, our Jr.Kg learners explored "more" and "less" through a sorting game, enhancing their quantity comparison and analytical skills. They also practised counting by stringing beads, reinforcing their understanding of numbers. Additionally, they worked on missing numbers and wrote numbers 1–10, improving their sequencing and recognition abilities.

THEME

Instilling good etiquette in our young learners helps them develop into respectful adults, enhancing their social and emotional skills. This cycle, our students embarked on a sensory adventure, focusing on touch. They explored various textures through a centre table activity and learned to identify the sense organs and their functions.

English

During the English sessions, learners engaged in interactive activities and assignments that enhanced their skills in identifying rhyming words and illustrating CVC words. They practised writing these words in their notebooks and reinforced beginning sounds through flashcards and worksheet exercises. These activities supported growth in reasoning, problem-solving, vocabulary, and writing, contributing to their overall cognitive and literacy development.

MATH

Our learners delved into the world of patterns by extending and creating them in their math workbooks using various shapes and colours. This activity helped them recognize and predict repeating sequences, a key skill for understanding the order and predictability of numbers. They also practised distinguishing between left and right, enhancing their spatial awareness and coordination, which are crucial for cognitive development.

THEME

Learners recently enjoyed an engaging recapitulation session on ‘Hobbies’ by creating a class hobby chart, where they pasted pictures of their favorite activities and explored their interests through discussion. They also completed a worksheet on the topic and wrote five body parts in their English notebooks. Additionally, they enhanced their understanding of internal organs by placing them correctly. These holistic activities not only foster social-emotional growth and hands-on learning but also help learners develop new skills, build confidence, and connect with peers, making learning a fun and enriching experience.

PlayLab

Our School Play Lab is a dynamic space filled with carefully chosen toys and materials that inspire creativity and support cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. It provides a fun, engaging environment where learners can build essential life skills, develop resilience, and enhance their overall growth.

LITERACY CIRCLE

Capital Letter Hunt – This week, our students embarked on a literacy adventure, exploring capital letters with great enthusiasm. They identified capital letters at the beginning of words in the "Ann and Mal" storybook and learned their significance, especially in names. Highlighting capitalized names made the activity enjoyable while also boosting their concentration.

Early exposure to books is vital for children's development, enhancing language skills, vocabulary, and understanding of language structure. In a recent session, we explored these benefits through the story "The Animals," which captivated learners while teaching them about emotions, empathy, and social interactions. After the story, students engaged in a word search activity, identifying and underlining keywords in their reader books, reinforcing their comprehension and retention of the story's themes and vocabulary.

HORTICULTURE

Jr.Kg

During the horticulture session, learners worked with Hibiscus branch cuttings, dipping them into water after removing the leaves. They were also taught to cut the stems at a 45-degree angle to enhance water absorption. Students observed white dots and small roots forming on the cuttings, gaining hands-on experience in plant propagation and understanding the basics of plant growth. This activity provided a well-rounded educational experience, integrating cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning about horticulture.

In this session, our learners embarked on a horticulture adventure by growing fenugreek. They prepared the soil, planted seeds, and took turns watering and observing the plants daily. This hands-on experience deepened their understanding of plant growth, while also teaching responsibility, patience, and environmental awareness. Their efforts led to a successful harvest, filling them with pride. We encourage parents to nurture this interest by involving their children in simple gardening activities at home, creating more opportunities for learning and bonding.

Topic - Butterfly Pose

The butterfly pose is a seated stretch where students sit with the soles of their feet together, gently pressing their knees down like butterfly wings. This pose helped our learners stretch their inner thighs and improve their posture. It's a simple yet effective yoga practice that enhances flexibility and balance in our young ones.

Topic - Lotus Pose

Yoga for kids offers a fun way for learners to practice the lotus pose. In this seated position, children crossed their legs and rested their feet on their thighs, resembling a blooming lotus flower. This pose encouraged relaxation, mindfulness, and improved focus.

Topic - Fish Pose

Learners began the fish pose by placing their hands under their thighs, with fingers pointing toward their feet, and pressing their forearms and elbows into the ground for stability. This pose was a great stretch that enhanced flexibility, balance, and body awareness in the learners.

Nursery

This week, our nursery kids started their Zumba warmup and performed the song "Who Let the Dogs Out." The young learners enjoyed every moment and had a fantastic time dancing and moving to the music.

Our Jr. KG learners had an exciting week as they started their Zumba warm-up sessions. They also performed enthusiastically to the "Thunder" song.

Sr.Kg

This week, our Sr. KG learners began their classes with an energetic warm-up. They performed the fun and engaging S-Cool Zumba song and participated in a balance-improving game. The learners had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the activities.

Events

National Handloom Day

On August 7, we celebrated National Handloom Day at Kanakia Kids, highlighting the significance of handloom weaving and its role in socioeconomic progress. Students explored various handloom fabrics, engaging with their textures, and learned about traditional designs and colours through informative movies and articles. They crafted small handloom items using yarn, cardboard, and popsicle sticks and participated in a fashion presentation, showcasing and explaining different textiles and their regional origins.

India's Achievements at the Olympics

India has had a notable presence at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing three bronze medals in shooting events.

*Manu Bhaker shone brightly, earning two bronze medals one in the Women's 10m Air Pistol event.

*Sarabjot Singh in the Mixed 10m Air Pistol Team event.

*Swapnil Kusale added to India's medal tally with a bronze in the Men's 50m Rifle Three Positions event.
