A custody battle can be difficult for anyone to go through - especially the children. When parents are not able to come to a mutually agreed upon arrangement for custody, Family Court will usually order that a custody evaluator assess the family situation and make recommendations for the custody of the children.
When this happens there are several types of "Custody Evaluators" that are available. Many attorneys choose to do custody evaluations but they are called Best Interest Fact Finders. Other professions that are allowed to do this type of work in Hawaii are psychologists or doctors.
Why should you choose to have an LCSW as your custody evaluator? The answer is simple, LCSW's look at the entire picture. An LCSW is not focused on only legal ramifications, nor or they primarily focused on medical issues or psychological issues. Instead, an LCSW looks at what is best for the child(ren), where will the child thrive, which parent has the child(ren)'s best interest at heart and which parent can offer the most stability. An LCSW will look at the psychological, medical, legal, behavioral, behavioral, emotional, cultural and educational needs of the child(ren) and who would best be able to meet the child's needs.
