Audition Information

Logistics

Location: Miller Auditorium on the campus of Western Michigan University (2200 Theatre Dr. Kalamazoo, MI 49008)

Audition Date: Thursday, June 2, 2022

Arrival Time: All candidates must arrive prior to the start of their assigned audition block. Please plan for enough time to receive a parking pass and audition paperwork, to load-in equipment, and complete a health screening. All candidates MUST fill out the linked Health Questionnaire prior to arrival.

Audition Time: There are four (4) preliminary audition blocks. Their anticipated start and end times are listed below.

Block 1: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM Block 3: 10:10 AM - 11:10 AM

Block 2: 9:05 AM - 10:05 AM Block 4: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM

Parking: All candidates should park in lots 33 or 34 ONLY. Immediately upon arrival, pick up a parking pass at the check-in table and place in the lower right corner of the car windshield. See the Directions page for maps.

Check-in: Please use the west-side entrance of the building. Inside the doors, take a right into the Green Room to check in. Please see the Directions page for maps.

Masks are required at all times except while auditioning!

Warm up Locations

You will be assigned a warm-up room at check-in. Candidates will receive 5-minute calls before moving spaces.

Group Warm-up: Conference Room B, lower level

Please keep all cases and personal items that are not needed during your warm up or audition in the Group Holding Room.

Private Warm-up: Four (4) backstage dressing rooms will be available for private warm-up.

Final Warm-up: Backstage ensemble dressing room equipped with the applicable onstage instruments.

Quiet Holding: backstage Green Room. Audition results will be announced in this space. Candidates may NOT play in Quiet Holding and conversations/interactions should remain quiet. Candidates may eat in this space.

Audition Process

Prior to arrival, all candidates MUST fill out the linked Health Questionnaire prior to arrival. Please double-check your email the morning-of; any additional communications will be sent via email.

Upon check-in, each candidate will be provided a Candidate Audition Number to be used as their identifier throughout the audition. Please make note of your identifier(s). At this time, candidates will also receive a packet of audition information and Preliminary Round Excerpt List. Deposits will be returned to each candidate upon the return of their parking pass at end of their audition day.

After check-in, candidates will be escorted to either a Private Warm-up room or the Group Warm-up room.

Between check-in and audition, candidates should remain in Group Warm-up until they are escorted to Private Warm-up by a KSO staff member; candidates will receive a 5-minute call prior to moving. Candidates will receive at least 10-minutes in a Private Warm-up room prior to their audition.

Immediately prior to audition, candidates will be given a 5-minute call. When the committee is ready, a KSO staff member will retrieve the candidate from Private Warm-up and escort them to the backstage door where our Audition Proctor will provide final information to the candidate before entering.

After audition, candidates should return to Group Warm-up to gather items, and immediately proceed to Quiet Holding (Green Room) to await the results of their audition block. Candidates may NOT play in Quiet Holding. If you must momentarily step out of the building, please notify a KSO staff member.

Results will be announced in Quiet Holding (Green Room). Those moving on to the next round will receive instructions and the next round's Excerpt List at that time. Those who have been released should return their parking pass prior to departure. Deposits will be returned upon the return of your parking pass.

The Preliminary round will be screened; subsequent rounds may or may not have a screen. Candidates will be notified by the proctor if the screen has been removed.
