Step 1 Read through this page, especially see "Instrument Options" below to decide what instrument you want to play.
(5th graders must continue with the same instrument as last year unless they have spoken with me about switching.)
Step 2 All students must fill out an Orchestra Enrollment Form. Click Here
Step 3 Students using a KPS instrument for the year must fill out the KPS Musical Instrument Use Contract . The link is at the end of the Orchestra Enrollment Form. Click Here
(If you do not know your child's student ID number type 111111.)
Step 4 Make sure the following form has been completed to see if you qualify to use a free use instrument:
Violin
Viola
Cello
Bass
These companies are both local and offer top grade instruments at a reasonable price. Their "rent to own" programs are a great way to get started!

Instrument Use Fee for one school year...........................................$60. (Can be waived with a scholarship if the student is eligible)
Maintenance Agreement.......................................................................$30 (Not covered by the scholarship)
Total without scholarship ...............................................................$90
Total with scholarship and Maintenance Agreement .........$30
Total with scholarship and no Maintenance Agreement ...$0
The Maintenance Agreement is basically damage insurance. GET THE INSURANCE! Instruments are fragile and accidents WILL happen. The cost for a repair can be over $200. Save yourself the headache and invest in the Maintenance Agreement.
Students who are on free or reduced lunch status can apply for a scholarship and we will waive the $60 "Instrument Use Fee". Students on scholarship are still HIGHLY encouraged to purchase the $30 "Maintenance Agreement".

Please do not go online to purchase an instrument. Ebay, Amazon, and other sites like that are great for things other than instruments!
When choosing an instrument, the most important thing is to ask yourself the question, "Which one has the sound that I like the best?"
There are many different styles of music that you can play on these instruments. I suggest that you visit YouTube, type the instrument's name and listen to a lot of different selections to make a good decision. This may be your instrument for life. :-)
Here is a partial list of places you could check out to get an instrument. I recommend renting because the stores have a trade in policy for the next size instrument. You accumulate a credit at that store for the eventual purchase of an instrument.
