Leilani - UH Provost Scholarship
Two of our former students, Mariel Tadena (MHS) and Leilani Dela Cruz (FHS) are UH Provost Scholarship recipients. Mariel attends McKinley and Leilani is at Farrington. Mariel is also getting her Medical Assistant Certification and Leilani is also graduating with her Associates in Liberal Arts from Honolulu Community College. Leilani and her classmates were featured on the news last night. Farrington has 8 seniors who will be graduating with their AA's before they receive their HS Diploma. Other former KMS students who will be receiving their AA's are: Cadyn Ramos and Norine Quach. Attached is the link to the story on HNN. Much Mahalo to all of you for teaching our Kalihi Kids.

Kalihi Kids Can!
We made it! Just two more classes to go! Whew! Just wanted to share two of our KMS Alum Success Stories. FHS Seniors Angelli Tacderan and John Christopher Caraang were awarded the UH Manoa Provost Scholarship worth 10k/year for four years. Both will be future Rainbow Warriors in the Fall. Gettysburg College Senior, Franchesca Aguilar (FHS 2018) will be graduating in May and has officially committed to Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health where she will be pursuing her dream of becoming an Epidemiologist. Ryan Mandado (FHS 2011) is serving his last day in the DOE as VP/Coach for DreamHouse 'Ewa (charter school) and has been hired by Google as their Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Mahalo to all of you for helping OUR KEIKI to fulfill their dreams. Remember, Kalihi Kids CAN!
AVID Works!
From Ms. Domingo,
College graduates in the works! Two of my former students are graduating this spring. Although both girls were not in AVID in middle school--they both joined AVID at FHS as it was paired with an AP Class. Mary Janell Murro (FHS '15) and her AVID classmates spoke at one of KMS' AVID Parent Nights here and Franchesca was a featured guest speaker via Google Meets in Spring of 2021. Both of them credit the AVID class and learned strategies as building blocks towards their college success. Franchesca will be graduating with her BS in Biology and was recently accepted into the Epidemiology Graduate Program at Emory. Mary will be graduating with her Master's in Public Health from UH Manoa. Her sisters Sherimae and Angelica are currently at UH Manoa as well.
As I keep saying, 'Kalihi Kids Can!'
