Nathan Mitchel Carstens Memorial Scholarship
Local Scholarship due April 3, 2026
Nathan Mitchel Carstens was first diagnosed with colon cancer in the spring of 2018. For nearly seven years, he fought courageously through surgeries, treatments, setbacks, and victories—yet cancer never defined him. What defined Nathan was his strength: physical, emotional, and most importantly, spiritual. Even while enduring grueling treatment regimens, he continued to invest in people, build relationships, and live out his faith. That’s just who he was and he made the world a better place because of it.
One of Nathan’s favorite sayings was, “Don’t be safe, be strong.” He lived those words. Though he had a promising career in property management ahead of him, he chose instead to pursue a calling to ministry and missionary work. He walked away from comfort and security to follow the path God placed before him. Nathan believed real strength was found not in playing it safe, but in living boldly for something greater than yourself.
