October Weekly Updates

Check out some photos from our trip to Camp Explore! We had a great time!

Week of October 7-11

On MONDAY we will attend Camp Explore! Tuesday and Wednesday we will begin working on our claim-evidence-reasoning piece responding to the question "How does mass affect kinetic energy?". To write this, students will make a claim that responds to the questions, they will use evidence and data from class to support their claim, and they will use reasoning to tell HOW their evidence supports their claim. This is a method of scientific writing students will learn now and will continue to use until they graduate high school.

Thursday and Friday we will talk about data and graphing data through various activities.

REMEMBER- NEXT WEEK IS FALL BREAK!

Standards in Focus:

6.Ps3.3-Analyze and interpret data to show the relationship between kinetic energy and the mass of an object in motion and it's speed.

Week of October 21-25

I hope all students are feeling relaxed and refreshed after this a week of Fall Break! This week we are beginning our study of heat transfer. On Monday we will set goals for the new 9-week grading period. On Tuesday, we will begin heat transfer with a phenomena day where we will pop popcorn by 3 different methods demonstrating the 3 different forms of heat transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation). Wednesday we will learn about heat transfer through videos, notes, and classroom demonstrations and on Thursday and Friday students will complete Heat Transfer centers.

Standards in Focus:

6.Ps3.4-Conduct an investigation to demonstrate the way that heat (thermal energy) moves among objects through radiation, conduction, or convection.

Week of October 28-November 1

Halloween week! This week we are continuing our study of heat transfer. Students will wrap up centers on Monday and do a Webquest Tuesday and Wednesday on to further their knowledge of heat transfer. On Thursday students will complete a spooky Escape Room as a fun Halloween activity. Friday students will design and complete an investigation to try to melt an ice cube the quickest using their knowledge of heat transfer and insulators and conductors.

We have a big test coming up on energy and heat transfer on Tuesday, November 5! This is a common assessment on everything we have learned this school year. Students will not be able to retake the test. We will review on Monday and I will give students a study guide on Monday to complete.

Standards in Focus:

6.Ps3.4-Conduct an investigation to demonstrate the way that heat (thermal energy) moves among objects through radiation, conduction, or convection.
