Projects

Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, the Pulaski Club partnered with the Science department at Dobyns-Bennett to conduct an on campus Fire Ecology Research Project.  The project will measure the effects that different prescribed burning tactics and burning seasons have on the soil, plant survival, and plant diversity within several burn units around the Dobyns-Bennett track.

DBHS Fire Ecology Research Area

The Pulaski Club has divided the bank at the Dobyns-Bennett track into several fire research units.  Science classes at D-B use a variety of data collection methods to survey the plants throughout five of the units, one being a no-fire control unit.  After a growing season burn in two units, and a dormant season burn in two units, the students will return to the five units in May and study the ecological effect of fire.
