About Us

Dear Chimayo Elementary School Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year! I hope that everyone had a relaxing, restful and fun summer break.  I am Caroline Romero, the new Principal of Chimayo Elementary School.   I am a former teacher and school guidance counselor. I have 18+ years of experience working in the Espanola Public School District as a teacher and school guidance counselor, and many years working as a teacher and school guidance counselor in another school district.  I was the School Guidance Counselor here at Chimayo and Mountain View Elementary Schools for several years beginning in 2012.  I am very happy and excited to be back at Chimayo Elementary School!

I would like to honor the former head teacher, Janet Malcom, who retired after dedicating years of service and hard work towards the success of Chimayo Elementary School students.  We will continue to strive to excel academically and in social emotional well-being.

Most all of our wonderful teaching staff will be returning, with the exception of Bilingual Teacher John Santillanes, 1st Grade Teacher Mary Jane Casados and School Nurse Paula LeDoux, who retired. We at Chimayo Elementary School are working diligently to be ready to welcome all of our students back for another great school year.

The following are upcoming important dates to remember:

1.       August 7, 2024       First Day of School for grades 1, 3, 5

2.       August 8, 2024       First Day of School for grades K, 2, 4, 6

3.       August 9, 2024      ALL students report to school (grades K-6)

4.       August 12, 2024    No School for Students and Staff in Observance of Santa Clara Feast Day

5.       August 21, 2024    Chimayo Elementary School OPEN HOUSE at 6:00 PM

If you would like to meet with me during the school year, please see the school’s office manager to schedule an appointment during the afternoon (I will be teaching during the morning half of the school day).  Thank you for your understanding and consideration of my work schedule in regards to this matter.

I am excited to embark on a great school year at Chimayo Elementary School!  I look forward to meeting all of you.  Welcome back to school!  Go Tigers!!!

Respectfully,

Caroline Romero
