D'AULAIRES' BOOK OF GREEK MYTHS:JASON

Jason of Iolcus was a strong and handsome man he was raised by the wise centaur Chiron . Jason's father had brought him to the centaur because his brother, Pelias, had stolen the throne and Jason's father was afraid that Pelias would kill the heir of the throne. Chiron trained Jason to be a hero. when jason was ready he left chiron to got to Iolcus so he could reclaim the throne. While jason was walking down the mountain Hera who was paying a visit to earth saw young man and quickly turned into a old lady, Jason politely offered to carry her across the swollen stream, she accepted the offer, so jason picked her up and carried her.She was light at first but with each step she grew heavier an heavier once jason reached midstream he sunk so far into the mud he lost a sandal.Once he crossed the stream Hera revealed herself to jason and said to him that she will help him reclaim the throne because pelias had forgot to include her when he sacrificed to the gods.once they got to iolcus pelias was acting very kind he even feasted the guests. when they finally got to the subject of Jason claiming the throne pelias mentioned a task that Jason would have to do before he would become king.It was to find the golden fleece which was once the pelt of a flying bull.
