Eratosthenes was born in 276B.C. and was raised in Cyrene, Libya. Eratosthenes “made math measurements and it led to the first parallel map.” The map was made with longitude and latitude so that people on boats could track where they were and where they were going to go. Eratosthenes made a huge impact on the world. Eratosthenes was famous because of his algorithm identifying prime numbers and improvements to the map of the world.

In 194 BCE Eratosthenes made the first accurate measurement of the circumference of the earth by using shadows. Eratosthenes also made a timeline. Eratosthenes’ timeline could tell when and why the Nile River flooded and what caused it to flood.
