Community Cookbook   in Math 6

Math 6 students used their knowledge of fraction operations to create a Community Cookbook. They each selected a recipe that meant something to them. First, they scaled down the recipe to feed a single person. Then, they scaled up the recipe to feed their family. After that, they scaled the recipe to feed a party of ten. Scaling up and down required students to multiply and divide with whole numbers, mixed numbers, and fractions. Cooking is an inherently scientific activity since the interaction of fats, salts, acids, and heat combine to make the chemistry of the food appealing or simply yucky!
