A Micro-credential in Culturally Responsive Teaching means that our educators have a foundation in research-based culturally responsive pedagogy as well as proven, critical strategies to enhance instruction for all learners. All candidates seeking certification must follow this process:
1. Participation in a 3-part Culturally Responsive Teaching module series provided by the ACPS Office of Community Engagement. Modules include:
Module 1: Examining your Cultural Lens
Module 2: Engaging Diverse Learners
Module 3: Building Learning Partnerships with Students & Families
2. Participation in the monthly Micro-credential Cohort activities. These activities include reading Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond, and completing monthly check point activities. The cohort meets monthly; those who are unable to attend are still expected to complete these monthly activities.
3. Submission of a five page reflective essay highlighting understanding of each of the ACPS Three Characteristics of Culturally Responsive Teaching, and describing the application of four “sub-indicators” within one selected “Characteristic of Focus.” Use these CRT Micro-credential Guiding Questions to help develop your essay.
4. Submission of a two part portfolio, to include:
Artifacts of Professional Application detailing the way you have implemented four sub-indicators from your Characteristic of Focus.
Artifacts of Student Learning and Growth detailing the way your shifts in professional practice impacted student outcomes
Use these CRT Micro-credential Guiding Question to help develop your portfolio.
Essays and Portfolios will be assessed by a Micro-Credential Assessment Team comprised of CRT-certified educators. The CRT Micro-Credential Assessment Rubric used by the Assessment Team evaluates the portfolios based on successful implementation of the ACPS Culturally Responsive Teaching Framework at a Level 3 or higher for the Characteristic of Focus.
After receiving a CRT Micro-Credential, those interested in pursuing further learning should investigate CRT Certification.
Micro-credentials should be submitted by May 6, 2021. All candidates will receive a submission form as this date approaches, and will submit their materials through this form.
