C3, or the Community Climate Collaborative, empowers local communities in Central Virginia to tackle climate change through collaboration, programs, and advocacy. Believing that effective climate action starts at the local level, C3 works with citizens, businesses, and local governments to develop policies and solutions that reduce emissions and address climate inequities. Their mission is to catalyze community-led initiatives that promote climate resilience and position cities like Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and Richmond as climate leaders. C3 strives to create a model for climate action that can inspire communities across Virginia and beyond.
In service to and in partnership with the community, the Office of Sustainability is a resource and advocate for strategies and actions that contribute to a healthy environment and a resilient Charlottesville. Guided by stewardship, innovation, and equity, we strive to achieve community prosperity and a thriving future for all.
The Office of Sustainability collaborates with departments and partners in the community to deliver a green city.

The Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability advises and informs the School Board and Superintendent about measures to help Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) develop and reach sustainability goals and foster an integrated series of tools and knowledge for the growth of environmental awareness. A significant part of ACES mission will be to guide and coordinate the implementation of the County’s Climate Action Plan as it relates to schools. Implementation will involve goals related to the five sectors of the Climate Action Plan: Transportation and Land Use; Buildings; Renewable Energy Sourcing; Sustainable Materials Management; and Landscape, Natural Resources, and Agriculture. In addition, annually the School Board may identify issues of interest for ACES to investigate and make recommendations.
