Hello everyone! My name is Cheryl Duckers. This is my thirty-second year of teaching and my 23rd year at Cambridge Elementary. I am a proud mother. My son, Blake, was an honors graduate of Alamo Heights High School. He graduated with high honors from Trinity University and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society while at Trinity. Blake moved to Seattle after graduating college to start his career. Sadly, he passed away in February 2017 due to complications from Type I Diabetes. I miss him every day. My other son, Brock, graduated with honors from Alamo Heights High School where he was a drum major and the lead trumpet player for the band. He graduated with honors from Trinity University, where he majored in Business Analytics Technology and Accounting. He also graduated with distinction with his Masters in Accounting from UIW. He is working as a tax accountant here in San Antonio. I have the best furry friend in the world, my Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix, Chicklet. When I am not at school, you can find me either volunteering, watching television with Chicklet, reading a book or playing on my iPad (Match Factory, NYT Games, and Mahjong are my current favorites). I am incredibly excited to be teaching your child this year.
My main goal as a teacher is to make school a place where your child wants to go. In my experience, students who love and enjoy school will learn ten times more than students who drag their heels as they leave home. To do this, I make my classroom a safe, fun place where students can laugh, try new things and come home with new knowledge. I strive to make each child feel valued and accepted, because my goal is a teacher is not only to educate your child, but to help produce a confident, compassionate leader.
