What is ACE?

What is ACE?

ACE stands for Assignment Completion Expectation. It is a proactive program that focuses on helping students who are behind in getting caught up. ACE is NOT a punishment. It is meant to provide an opportunity for students to get some extra help in getting caught up. An ACE list is run Sunday evening and Thursday morning by Mr. Lowery.

Why does my student have ACE?

Students can be assigned ACE for two reasons. The first is that they have three or more missing assignments. The second is that they are failing two or more classes. Any student meeting one of those two criteria will be put on the ACE list for the following Tuesday or Thursday.

What if my student has missing work because they were absent?

We understand that students will have missing assignments throughout the year due to being absent, including absences for school events (like sports) or illnesses. The assignments they missed are marked missing to help keep everyone, from the student to the study hall teachers, aware of what needs to be made up. Students who have missing assignments due to absences will still be put on the ACE list and expected to stay. Part of the purpose of ACE is to help these students from falling further behind. In addition, students miss out on instruction when they are absent and they get the opportunity to review concepts they may have missed with their teachers. If your student has an excused absence, a missing assignment doesn't necessarily mean docking of their grade. They will still have the appropriate time to get their assignments turned in without penalty.

How will I know if my student has ACE?

We do our best to let parents know as soon as possible if their student is on the ACE list. On Tuesdays and Thursdays a school reach call is sent out to families of students who will have ACE.

How can my student get off the ACE list?

Any student who completes all missing assignments or raises their failing grades can get off the ACE list. All students receive reports of missing work on a daily basis in homeroom and studyhall. If a student is on the ACE list it is indicated on that report as well. Students should collect signatures on their missing assignment slip as they turn in their assignments. If a student is taken off of ACE for completing their work a message will be sent to their family as well. Also, having both the student and their guardian(s) regularly checking the campus portal helps to stay on top of missing assignments.
