Right now there are ton's of things happening in every computer class at each grade level. Students are in full swing of learning the basics, gaining new information, and completing projects currently being worked on! See each grade level below for detailed information of exactly what's being covered.
Students are working on learning their mouse skills; click, double click, drag, click and drag, etc. How do we properly hold a mouse and navigate the computer with it? Student will be playing games and using different online platforms to practice and reinforce these skills.
Students are learning how to login their computer independently with a login card. Students will then learn to navigate to my website from a short cut link provided and be able to navigate my website and choose from activities provided for them.
Students are working on higher level mouse skills and critical thinking activities. Student will navigate to my website and choose from activities listed to practice critical thinking and higher level mouse skills to complete activities provided at each website.
Students are working to create a how to video for Kindergarten to teach them about different devices and their uses. Students are working in groups to create powerpoint slides for introduction and then 3 device slides to teach about a specific devices they have choosen. Students will then turn these slides into pictures and we will import them into video software where they will narrate what the device is, how we use it, and where we would us it at. They will then get to review their videos as a large group and critique one another on how they did.
Student are working on creating an animal research project. Student learned how to choose good websites and will use those skills to choose quality websites with good information about their animal. Students will choose their animal and then they will need to collect 15 facts about that animal and put them into a powerpoint presentation with 3 facts per slide. They will need to have complete sentences, capitalization, and punctuation. Then they will export those slides into a video software and read their facts for each slide. Once finished we will watch them as a large group and talk about how the student did together. We will discuss if you could hear their voice clearly, if they chose correct colors for easy visibility (light on dark or dark on light), and then lastly did they provide facts (no comments or opinions).
Students will continually be working on their typing skills throughout several projects for the rest of the year. They will demonstrate good posture and use proper hand placement and key strokes on the keyboard while doing their projects.
Students are beginning an internet safety unit. In this unit we will utilize a website with in class instruction and activities to go through different levels of internet safety. Students will be focusing on how to share/not share information, not fall for scams, provide good passwords, be kind while online, and how to report items they are worried about. Students will go through classroom instruction with examples and activities then they will move to the online component and answer questions and do task to re-enforce the lesson being taught.
Students will continually be working on their typing skills throughout the year remembering to have good posture and use proper hand placement and key strokes on the keyboard.
Students are working on a coding unit. We will begin with an hour of code exercise and then students will utilize several websites to expand their knowledge of coding through different activities at each site. Students will work at their own pace through this unit.
Students will reacquaint themselves with proper keyboarding procedures and utilize various online typing programs to practice.
