Our History
The Stanley County GOLD (Great Opportunities for Learning & Development) was established as a partnership between the Stanley County School District and the Community & Youth Involved, Inc. (CYI), in Fort Pierre, SD. It is funded by a SD Department of Education 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. CYI was the home-base of the program. Over 25 community organizations signed on as partners willing to provide a variety of services to support the goals of the program.
In 2019, the board of CYI and the Stanley County School District engaged Three Rivers Specials Services Cooperative as a fiscal and programmatic partner. The state awarded a SD DOE 21CCLC Grant to re-established the SC GOLD Program. Again, many community organizations joined in as partners willing to share their service & resources to support the program. Grant funding was renewed in July of 2024 for five new years of funded programming.
The 4-H Youth Development Model was adopted as a key component of the program. SD GOLD became an official 4-H Club and all GOLDkids are 4-H members. Throughout the year 4-H curriculum and events are implemented to help improve & build academic performance, strong character traits and 21st Century Skills. The annual Hughes/Stanley County Achievement Days is the the "grand finale" of each year where GOLDkids, families and the community celebrate growth & accomplishments together.
