Mr. Hamil has been a Band Director in South Dakota for 13 years. He was the band director in Hoven, SD and Martin, SD and Custer, SD before accepting his current position as a band director for the Douglas School District where he directs the 5th and 6th grade instrumental music program at Vandenberg Elementary School and Douglas Middle School.
Mr. Hamil received his Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI and his Master of Music in Orchestral Trumpet Performance from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. Mr. Hamil loves to play the trumpet. He maintains a busy performance schedule playing trumpet with the Black Hills Symphony, South Dakota Jazz Orchestra, Ponderosa Brass, and various small groups and solo performances throughout the Black Hills. He also spends time doing band clinics, and guest conducting. When not involved musically, he enjoys spending time with his wife (Kim), travelling throughout the country to see his three adult daughters, hiking and biking throughout the hills, playing with his pugs, and watching Marvel movies.
