**School Counselors do not offer traditional therapy or long term counseling because of our large caseload. They will assess the student's need, and if they feel the student would benefit from more in-depth, traditional counseling, they will contact the parents/guardians to discuss resources outside of school.**
Confidentiality Matters:
In accordance with both South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL 19-19-508.1) and the Ethical Standards for School Counselor (ASCA, 2016), all information shared in a counseling session is considered confidential UNLESS the student shares that:
They are being harmed or threatened
Someone else is being harmed or threatened
They plan on harming themselves or someone else
They grant permission for confidentiality to be breached.
